Re: Citadel
Indefensible, inexcusable. Start the search NOW. This program is an embarrassment and a liability as we seek membership into a new conference.

From WSJ: Neal said. “They’re not a good team at all. They’re last in the confer-ence…. It’s really hard to come up with a reason for this loss.”
I know it's hard, because the reason is:

Re: Citadel
For all the hype Darcie gets she hasn't exactly burned the house down. Yes the program has improved but we stunk before she got here. Her marquee win over NC State has to be taken in context of being taken to school in two tournament finals by a little private school in Birmingham. This year's team filled with upper classmen is 3rd after being swept by Davidson and losing the first of two with UTC and Samford. I'm waiting for her to actually win a championship other than the women's NIT three years ago before she is proclaimed the next Pat Summit.GlassOnion wrote:I wonder how much spare time Darcie Vincent has...

The women are 113 in RPI and have been in the top 1/3 of the nation in RPI for three years now. I would kill for our men's program to be that good consistently.

Re: Citadel
I think she benefits by the comparison to the men's coach. But you are correct, while she has produced a winning program she is yet to win a SoCon tourney or take her team to the Big Dance. I'm not being critical of what she has done because she has brought the women's team back as a title contender for the last three years, however, this was the team that was suppose to be her best and they have been unable to beat the top dogs thus far this season.Kgfish wrote:For all the hype Darcie gets she hasn't exactly burned the house down. Re: Citadel
Silver lining: We made it on sports center for a good play this time.
At this point, who cares about basketball loses? We have two more agonizing games, the conference tourney and then we can lose the Tar Hole and concentrate on baseball. I hate it mostly because Nate Healy is one of my all-time favorite players and his senior year (and career in general) has been squandered by piss poor leadership. I'm not gonna get too upset though, even after losing to the worst school we played all year, because utter failure and disappointment is all I've come to expect under the Jason Capel regime.

Re: Citadel
I care because they are still App State's team. I want them to win the next two games and perform as well as possible in the tournament. I'm disappointed in the play of the team and it is indeed frustrating as this team continues to be the epitome of inconsistency. However, I don't lay all the blame on JC. He stated on the postgame last night how many times they had practiced against the very play that the Citadel ran to send into OT. He even said they talked about it in the huddle prior to the play. Some of the blame has to rest with the players. Their is a lack of discipline in their play and a lack of fundamentals on their part. Some of that rests with the coach no doubt.
I do believe a change in coaches would be a positive thing from the standpoint of the need to bring a different approach to the program, a jump start if you will. However, I won't move on to baseball exclusively at this point until basketball is finished. I not hopeful that things will turn out any better than they have to this point, but I'm not withdrawing my support for the team. They are fellow Mountaineers.

Re: Citadel
I'm not sure why this would be. Freeman, Freeman, Sharkey, and Sydnor would point to a good team... but, the team lacks a point guard and there's just a bunch of young talent without much experience after those four.hapapp wrote:this was the team that was suppose to be her best
Two years ago was Darcie's best team, imo. And we were at the free throw line to win the tournament championship and Ashlen Dewart simply choked.

Re: Citadel
I disagree to a point on this point. The a lot of the discipline and fundamentals training is on the coaches to instill on the team. The fact that the team can't defend or break the press is an issue of coaching. The fact that nearly half of our shots last night is an issue of coaching. The fact that on a roster of ~15 we only use 8 even in the event of foul trouble. Yes the players have a lot of blame to shoulder, but I think a lot of it starts with the training and culture that Capel has/has not set up in the program.hapapp wrote: Some of the blame has to rest with the players. Re: Citadel
I really don't know why folks have a problem with Bobby Lutz. He knows what it's like to recruit to a non-ACC school in the Carolinas, and is a great X's and O's guy. That said, he's probably way past considering the kind of money App would offer just to be a head guy again. We missed our chance.

Re: Citadel
I would agree but the expectation after two blown chances at a SoCon crown, this was the last best chance for that to happen. But, you are correct about the deficiency with this squad. Just like the men, there is no quality play at PG. Against the better teams, they women look like the men, just passing around the perimeter and jacking up the threes.skjellyfetti wrote:I'm not sure why this would be. Re: Citadel
I have no quarrel with what you say. But, when a coach goes over and over how to defend a certain play and the players fail to execute that's on them. No doubt, a good coach has the ability to communicate what needs to be done. There I find fault in the coaching, but the players ultimately have to execute.appgrouch wrote:I disagree to a point on this point. Re: Citadel
Lutz would be a great choice - HOWEVER he is not leaving NC State for anything close to what we are in the market to pay. He is making 225,000 dollars to be an assistant and coach alot better talent than anything coming through ASU. He has a chance to go to a mid-major (Missouri Valley, Conf USA, A10) and make significantly more money than App is offering with a better chance to win.asutrnr81 wrote:Bobby Lutz!
This is part of the reason we got stuck with Capel. This is not an attractive job. We screwed the pooch not letting Matt have it.

And Ashlen is going to win her SoCon crown this March the way things are going and leave Darcie at the alter again.skjellyfetti wrote:I'm not sure why this would be.
