Game Stream: App vs Ohio

Unread post by AppHoops » Tue Nov 11, 2014 8:22 am

Season Opener is almost here! Hopefully some of the rust from Thursday is going away, but regardless, we are going to suit up Saturday afternoon against the Ohio Bobcats and try to start our season out 1-0.

I know Football kicks off at 3:00 and that will take a ton of potential viewers / listeners away from basketball's 2:00 start time, but there is a game stream link available for those who'd like to watch our boys.

The link is: http://portal.stretchinternet.com/ohio/

I'm not sure about whether it costs money to watch or not. Wasn't told it did, but you never know.

I think you will enjoy the trip to Ohio University. It is a great basketball school. They have one of the finest arenas in the MAC seating just over 13,000. The building is getting a little old but it's still pretty nice. They recently played an exhibition game and drew 11,000+. I gave some serious thought to driving down for the game but there is just too much going on around here right now.

They have a new coach, Saul Phillips, who they got from North Dakota State. Ohio fans say they are now playing "Saul Ball." Phillips has a nice winning record as a head coach and won the Summit League title last season. NDSU went to the NCAA and won their first game but got knocked out in the round of 32. Many NDSU fans were not happy to see Phillips leave and felt the move to Ohio was not a move up. I think they were wrong.

I have been thinking App State and Ohio Univ should try to develop some sort of long running home and home arrangement in a number of sports. It's about a six and a half hour drive from Boone and within easy reach of many App State fans. It would be a bus trip for the teams. I see it as a great way to get in an out of conference game without spending a lot of money on travel.

I am still coming down to Boone each year for a football game but if you were playing in Athens that would be an easier trip for me.

I don't blame the ND State fans. That might be a slight move up, but when you're a small school, you hope you can at least keep your coaches around until they get an offer they just can't pass up.

I know as an App fan, I don't have any illusions about keeping a successful coach around if the ACC or SEC comes calling. I just hope they won't look to hop on the first bus out of town for a slight move up. We've got some experience in that area.

Ohio fan here.
The stream is free. Early in the season, the consistency of our video stream hasn't been great. Lots of Bobcat fans are hoping the quality issues work out quickly this year. Our two radio guys call the video stream and they are both good. If you are looking for additional coverage, I assume our athetics site will have a stats link and another good option is to follow @JasonAmessenger on twitter. He is the Ohio beat reporter.

Ohio fans know the pain of losing coaches to larger programs, having lost our previous two coaches to Illinois and Boston College. I have a lot of respect for the NDSU program, but I do feel that Ohio basketball's potential is much higher. If a basketball coach commits himself in Athens, the possibilities are endless.

It is unfortunate you have a football the same day as this game. It should be a good crowd at this game in Athens since our football team is off and we are a strong basketball school anyways.
