Mike Griffith of AJC thinks App 2007 better than 2016 team

Interesting that he thinks our 2007 team is better than the current team.
I think our current team is better as it is stronger and deeper across the board.

Current team would beat that squad handily. And I loved that team.

They will never play each other so any comparison is just opinion. Like when NFL teams from different eras are "pitted" against each other. Means nothing. That team was special though

Reminds me of the Jordan vs X comparisons. They're more rooted in nostalgia and generational biases than anything else.
I'd take the 2016 Apps D and the 2007 Apps O. Cox and Lamb are great, but AE was AE.

Not going to watch a 45 minute video, but in short, my guess - 2007 was better at QB, 2016 is as good or better at every other position group and much deeper.

2007 team had playmakers everywhere. This team should and will be one of if not the best team as a whole we have ever had.

I think the O line was really special as well in 07. That and QB were better imo.

AE was/is a special, once in a lifetime talent. He has the ability to a make everyone around him better. Saying this, I'm left to salivate over what the 2007 version of Armanti could do with this offense made up of bigger and generally more talented athletes.

He could then be moved to WR and Punt returns and not let be QB.....oh wait ....someone tried that, I forget his name though.appstate77 wrote: I'm left to salivate over what the 2007 version of Armanti could do with this offense made up of bigger and generally more talented athletes.

Not saying this to detract from anything AE did, only to highlight what a stud TL is: he broke AE's single season TD record....as a sophomore. Obviously he's not quite the athlete AE was and they bring different skill sets to the table. I think the 2016 team is better as a whole but it would be fun to see the '07 O go against the '16 D

Not dissing TL at all! I love the young man and all he brings to App. He certainly is a stud and will break more of AE's records.

'07 offense vs. '16 defense would be a good contest.Yosef10 wrote:Not saying this to detract from anything AE did, only to highlight what a stud TL is: he broke AE's single season TD record....as a sophomore. '16 offense vs. '07 defense would be ugly.

Re: Mike Griffith of AJC thinks App 2007 better than 2016 team
I was among many (and I refuse to believe we were delusional) who felt like AE could have played FBS level QB for many schools. His slight build could have gotten him beaten up a bit but he could really play. I am hoping that TL takes his game to a higher level this year. Would be a fun game. I'm not sure the back 7 for the '07 team could stop our offense. The level of overall talent and depth- assuming the current team uses the top 65 players is at a higher level.

Which team would Satt and Dale coach on?

How about '16 offense vs. '06 defense? That unit was, by far, the best I've seen at App -- until last year.EastHallApp wrote:'07 offense vs. '16 defense would be a good contest.Yosef10 wrote:Not saying this to detract from anything AE did, only to highlight what a stud TL is: he broke AE's single season TD record....as a sophomore. This team would never lose the 2 games that 07 team lost. But, they might not have beaten Michigan. I would love to see AE guide this team. Nothing against Lamb, but AE was more accurate and had a much stronger arm. And you can't coach that type of ice water he had. And he was pound for pound ALWAYS the toughest player on the field.

Re: Mike Griffith of AJC thinks App 2007 better than 2016 team
He only broke AE's PASSING TD record. Not to downplay the accomplishment, but AE had something like another 10 or 15 rushing TDs on top of that. Taylor Lamb isn't quite the offensive juggernaut that AE was just yet, but he's still learning.Yosef10 wrote:Not saying this to detract from anything AE did, only to highlight what a stud TL is: he broke AE's single season TD record....as a sophomore.
