Shouldn't come as too much of a surprise...
With the overwhelming demand for tickets, students will not be allowed to purchase GA guest tickets for the Miami game.

Good. Every student who wants to get in should get in, not the $15-20 friend of a friends.

Good move. It wouldn't be surprising to see 12,000 students show up for this game so no room for guests.

Student guests are almost never actually App fans. I don't think they make much noise. They're the ones who convince their host friends to leave during the 3rd quarter to hit the bars.

I have a question. I've heard about increasing seating near the field house for this game to allow for greater attendance numbers, however, the game is already sold out, and I don't believe we have details on the new seating arrangements. Does this mean the new seats will go to students, you think?

I'm sure they'll be general admission, so I assume that would be students and/or other GA ticket holders.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote:I have a question. This might already be the case but if not....
Students wanting to attend the game should be given a date they must request their individual tickets. Announce it now to give plenty of notice. After that date, the remaining GA tickets (Doubt it will be many) should go on sale for $35 to the general public and not student's guests.
Just my opinion.

Part of the reason we have among the best student attendance in college football is the ease with which students can walk up, swipe their App cards, and get in. Millineals are lazy and irresponsible.

Yes, however we've never had a game of this magnitude played in Boone. The simplicity is great for games where we have 25k, but this will be massive. If we're going to host the P5 conferences, we have to put ourselves at that level...At least for these games. I could be wrong, but I doubt most P5 schools don't have students just walk right up to the gate to swipe and enter. I'm not suggesting this for every game, but this one...Yes. If they did this for Georgia State, the students wouldn't care. For this game, I think they'd be more responsible and get their ticket ahead of time.Gonzo wrote:I have never disagreed with something so strongly in my life./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:This might already be the case but if not....

Unless the students get there early prepare for loooong lines at the gate.

Good. Current students should be able to get into this game just like any other. Not only is this game special for the players and alumni, it is very special to the students as well.
Removing the guest tickets is just smart planning.
If things don't work out exactly as planned at least the administration will have learned something they can use the next time a P5 comes to town.

First of all, handling thousands of ticket requests would create extra work for AD staff, who presumably will already be busy enough.
Second, it's kind of a no-win. Either student response is massive and you gain few if any tickets to sell to the public, or the early registration reduces student attendance significantly - obviously not what we want.
Third - and this might be most important - the students this would keep out would be the casual fans or non-fans who just decide on game day to go because their friends are going. Those are the kinds of people who can be turned into fans by experiencing an event like this - i.e., the people you really want at this game. Better to create new lifelong fans than generate a little extra one-time revenue off people who declined to buy season tickets, join the Yosef Club or call early on Aug. 2.
Fourth, it would likely result in some unused tickets, as students who are interested but unsure if they'll go would register for tickets early to keep their options open, then possibly decide later not to attend.
Finally, it would potentially complicate what already seems likely to be a slow stadium entry process. You know there would be students who show up thinking they'd registered but hadn't, or students who didn't hear about the required preregistration, or who knew about it but decided at the last minute that if they show up they'll be able to get in... and every one of those will cause a delay while those people argue with the card scanners.
I say keep it simple and don't create any incentives for students to stay home.

Higher demand for limited supply of student tickets is nothing new to many top tier programs. They have been doing it for decades at Duke and Carolina for basketball. Not difference here. Setup a date for the lottery and let the students pick a ticket.

I would enjoy seeing that as well.Rekdiver wrote:I crave the day when our students camp out in Appville for tickets!
However, until we fully fund our scholarships and reduce the student subsidy to below 30% I don't think we should turn any student away from attending a football game.

Re: Source: No Student Guest Tickets Available For...
Oh I agree with that. I'd build seating to accommodate students but limit tickets to students require pickup 2 days before game then sell as GA any left.
Re: Source: No Student Guest Tickets Available For...
OK, believe it or not, my elder son tried to camp out about two years ago to be first in line for a game. He was a sophomore at the time, I think. (I realize there is a difference between a line for tickets, and a line for entrance to the stadium.)Rekdiver wrote:I crave the day when our students camp out in Appville for tickets!
They no sooner got their tent set up than they were run off by Boone's finest.
So, my point is, the local constabulary will first have to be informed that such camping is OK.

We have the atmosphere we have because ~70% of the closest seats to the field are for students, we let them come in with the swipe of an AppCard, and we don't cap student tickets. That is the only reason we get the attendance we do and the raucous atmosphere we enjoy. What you're suggesting would destroy it all. STOP

Re: Source: No Student Guest Tickets Available For...
Gonzo is right on for the time being. There's clearly not enough demand from those who are not students. Once we can fill the stadium and not have 10k students present to do so then we can start treating this as a business and having a lottery for student tickets just like every other major football school in the country. Until then let em all in.
