College Football News has released their preseason rankings:

They had us at 31 at the end of last season. Now they've inexplicably dropped us to 74. That's after 0 games were played.

It's essentially a G5 list followed by a P5 list with nothing but "conventional wisdom" guiding the juxtaposition. 11 wins and we're 17 spots behind 3-win Boston College. No respect, I tell ya.

We will get our opportunities to earn respect this year. I hope we are able to take advantage of them.

I don't see how you drop a team 43 spots without a single game being played. It's like they hit the reset button and willingly forget everything they JUST. LEARNED.

We're not the only G5 team that got s*** on. Clearly this(these) writer(s) have some deeply rooted animosity towards the G5.

Guy even admits there is some disrespect. Stupid rankings. You can base SOOOO much off of the Spring practices. LOL

I kind of like the chip on the shoulder it gives us.
It is not crazy to move us down a few notches. We lost a lot of experience this year and some key positions. Our schedule is real for the first time in ages.
Let's prove our ranking on the field. Last year is last year.

We could finish 11-1 and top 25, however would likely only play in one of the tie-in bowl games. I don't like it, but knew it would be the realistic scenario once we moved to FBS.

They seem to be taking the approach that nearly every P5 is better than nearly every G5, every year, until proven otherwise. There's really no explanation of why we're so low, other than saying we're probably too low. Think that's bad? Look at A-State's ranking:

"94. Arkansas State (9-4) - This will be a much, much higher rating soon – yeah, the Red Wolves deserve more respect than this."

Uh, OK... then why did you rank them there?

I think we need to temper expectations. We have not had a solid 4 quarter performance against an elite FBS team in 9 years. We are way ahead of schedule entering our 2nd year as a legit FBS team, but we need to prove it. Lasting 1.5, 2 or 3 quarters against the Vols ain't going to cut it. We have opportunity, it's what we do with it that matters. Respect is earned.

We have a lot to prove. We have started every year since Michigan pretty full of ourselves. Let's enjoy our progress without setting unrealistic expectations and the bravado that isn't yet earned. A few more years like last year and some great P5 showings and I'll start talking smack to Tennessee but not just yet for me.

Maybe you guys are looking for the thread about the UT coach saying nobody will be able to run on them?

Nobody's talking about Tennessee here, just wondering why we'd be ranked 40 spots below where we ended last year.

Then just pretend the comments are germane to both threads....

I would not put a lot of stock in preseason polls. Games need to be played first.
