Ok, now the pressing question who is the next man up? Anyone have any idea what route Scott is looking to take for a replacement? I thought we were in the clear once he turned down ECU, this is a downer.

I say we go after Shawn Clark. He's a former player, is currently the Assoc. Head Coach/ OL at Kent State, and had 4 years at Purdue.
Outside of him I don't know who to even look at???

My guess is that Satt already has someone in mind. I don't think this came out of the blue for him. Since the convention just ended, I'd say he had the opportunity to talk to several people. I wouldn't be surprised if Satt already knows who the successor is.

I am hopeful since I had doomsday emotions after Foster and Stepp left and we bounced back just fine. We have just made so much progress, I'd hate to see a drop off in line play which was really the difference for us all year. Either way this beats losing our whole staff to you know...a football power like Tulane.

With the season we had we weren't escaping the offseason with all assistant coaches coming back.

Well, that hurts. But it's a testament to where our program is at, and how it's regarded around the country. As it was mentioned earlier the Stink lost their entire staff to the football powerhouse that is Tulane. Satt has proven time and again he knows what coaches will fit well with us and I believe he will do it again. Ledford did an amazing job for us and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

I wasn't familiar with Clark, but he could make sense. However, an issue there could be that we'd probably have to offer him the same AHC title he holds with Kent State, which might not be well-received by Woody or Ponce.
One other point to consider is that we currently only have one African-American coach on the staff, so this could be an opportunity to address that.
My uneducated guess is that we hire someone with no App ties.

From the point at which Ledford began interviewing for another position, Satterfield has probably already been exploring possibilities for his replacement.

I'm sure Satt has a quality list of folks to pursue. I understand that Clark may be interested and while he has App ties, he has coached in the Big 10 which may open up new areas of recruitment. He is one of the best to have played on the OL at App.

I've mentioned this to some people recently. Young and Hungry coaches are fine for the skill positions as there are thousands of those types of players across the country but for the interior, on both sides, you really want to find someone with experience and connections at the higher levels, if you can, as there are not as many FBS caliber linemen and having experience at evaluation and committing them and connections to help find them is critical. FWIW

I suggested the "Young and Hungry" idea to Moose last night via text and was promptly SMACKED down with this very response!!!

Now I don't know if SMACKED down was really what happened. Maybe a ruler to the hand or, for you NCIS fans out there, a little Gibbs to the back of the head....
Honestly every experienced coach started out as a Y & H coach. Most get experience by following their Y & H HC from job to job. Personally I like the idea of a longer term guy with P5/G5 experience and connections who wants to be here. And one name I've heard mentioned fits that bill perfectly. But when Satt wants my opinion I'm sure he'll get right in touch with me. I'm standing by...

I've known Mario and his family for a long time. He would LOVE to get back to APP....I mean love to!!! But something happened when was a GA and Satt was still here before he left. Dont know details but thinking is Satt wont ask. Frank Garcia coached Mario up with lots of technique in HS and Mario would drop what he's doing right now and come back.

I would love to push our recruiting area into Ohio and PA to try and target some OL.
