Ledford to ECU?
Apparently the two have significant mutual interest and the move is picking up steam. Can't blame a guy for going back to his alma mater but I hate losing guys in any capacity to ECU.

Re: Ledford to ECU?
I would hate to see Ledford go as well. He's a local guy, and has done great things with our O-line, especially given the injuries throughout the season. I understand the draw of the alma mater though, even if the AD at said alma mater is a bit slimy who just fired another alumnus who appears to be loved and respected by everyone in the game except the slimy AD . . . . just saying.

Re: Ledford to ECU?
Losing DL was my biggest concern going into the off season with Sirignano being next in line. And to top that off, I actually had a dream last night (which I never remember my dreams) that Iron Mike had accepted a new position with an A5 program.

Re: Ledford to ECU?
This would be a bad deal to lose him. He's done so much with the OL, pulling them together despite the injuries, plus he's just an all-around good feller! Like someone else posted, the call of the alma mater is there but I don't want to lose anyone or anything to ECU...or uncheat....or UCLA......or Furmson........Yosef10 wrote:Apparently the two have significant mutual interest and the move is picking up steam. We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Re: Ledford to ECU?
Nobody can blame Ledford wanting to go back to his alma mater, but if he does I'm completely confident that Scott will find a worthy replacement. Everyone was worried when Stepp and Foster left, but we ended up with even more qualified coaches to replace them.

Re: Ledford to ECU?
Would be understandable, though honestly I think he could do better.
Bigger worry might be if he takes any of our OL commits with him. As good a coach as Ledford is, we might have a harder time replacing them than him.

Re: Ledford to ECU?
If that's true and he does decide to stay, that would be a strong statement about our program. For him to even be struggling that much with the decision would show some strong feelings about App.

Re: Ledford to ECU?
He's making 125K now and the former Oline Coach at ECU made 190K, it's essentially a lateral move for a slight pay increase when he could ride it out at App another year or two and cash in big time like Elliot.

Re: Ledford to ECU?
I agree. Apparently his first couple years at ECU as a player made him a little homesick and thought about transferring so they're assuming that's playing into his decision. As someone who spent their first 18 years of life in Greenville and then was lucky enough to make the move up to App for 4.5 years, it's not a very tough call.EastHallApp wrote:If that's true and he does decide to stay, that would be a strong statement about our program. I don't know about you, but if I could make a lateral move for more than $65000, I probably would.

Re: Ledford to ECU?
It's about the best long term. He's got a great group coming back in a system he's helped develop. I'm sure Elliot had tons of offers for pay increases but with another year of success Ledford is looking at much better prospect whether that be an OC somewhere or P5 Oline coach making 350-400kThe Rock wrote:ASU_MBA wrote:He's making 125K now and the former Oline Coach at ECU made 190K, it's essentially a lateral move for a slight pay increase when he could ride it out at App another year or two and cash in big time like Elliot.

Re: Ledford to ECU?
One thing to keep in mind also is that what Led and the rest of the staff made this year is not what they will be making next year. After Satt got the new contract DG said his next order of business was raises for the staff. You can be assured that they have already been in talks and most have a pretty good idea about what we are shooting for. The gap may not be as wide as it looks. Sure it'll still be lower but maybe not enough to entice him to move when bigger things could be coming down the road. We'll know soon enough.

Yeah, it's not like he's starving in Boone. If he stays in Boone one more year, making, say $25,000 less, he could turn it into a million down the road.

Ledford to ECU?
Or our team could go into a tailspin and he's lost out. Some say a bird in the hand is worth two in a bush. I just hope Ledford doesn't say that, though I would understand if he did.AppinVA wrote:Yeah, it's not like he's starving in Boone. I also agree with the previous poster. A 50% raise is a hell of a raise to turn down for what I think is a slightly better than lateral move. It's not a full blown promotion but I would definitely call it a half step up. ECU has been here longer and they have had some success, though far from perennial power status. They are in a better conference and there's potential to springboard into an even better opportunity in the future, though staying at App may get him the same gig.
