College Gameday JMU
I hate to bring up JMU, but Gameday had a really good show highlighting the accomplishments of the JMU head coach and App alumnus Everett Withers. Congrats to him! I'm not really sure why FCS is getting so much ESPN love lately, but it is what it is.
Also, if you haven't seen the upgrades to their stadium, you should check it out. Our East side would look real good with the same look.

Re: College Gameday JMU
GameDay every year goes to a smaller school on a week with no big games. If we played today instead of Thursday maybe we would have had a shot. II currently live 45 minutes north of Harrisonburg, and grew up in the Shenandoah Valley. Happy for Harrisonburg. Still hate JMU.
Side note. At the Wood Grill buffet in Harrisonburg they still have a picture from the game I would like to forget. The second half blunder when App played JMU in 08.

Getting Gameday would be fun, but is it worth the distraction?

Not sure I'd trade it for a loss. Not saying that is what happened at JMU today, but the week's preparation had to be thrown off.APPdiesel wrote:YES it's worth the opportunity to showcase everything about App football.AppinVA wrote:Getting Gameday would be fun, but is it worth the distraction?

I will say, it is the 1st time I have ever seen the entire football team participate in the Gameday broadcast, the morning of a game. The team was on the 1st row as Sam Ponder interviewed Withers. I get the "once-in-a-lifetime" mentality, but I thought to myself during the segment - They just lost all focus for the game. Now knowing they lost, doesn't surprise me one bit.

Re: College Gameday JMU
I wonder if our schools affiliation with Lowes would be a roadblock to hosting gameday?
Give 'em hell!

Not to disagree with your observation but it's not like UR was a bad team. Their only loss coming in was an FBS one. But, I get your point. Our success seems tied to our teams ability to maintain focus.AppDawg wrote:I will say, it is the 1st time I have ever seen the entire football team participate in the Gameday broadcast, the morning of a game. Why on earth would anyone turn Gameday down? The marketing exposure would be through the roof. I don't think anyone has suggested we should turn them down, if they come calling.T-Dog wrote:If App is ever offered College Gameday, we accept it 11 times out of 10.

Re: College Gameday JMU
JMU made it a distraction. Many home teams that host Game Day go on to win. Their players probably should have been more focused and not in attendance. Hard to focus when Mrs. Ponder is in front of you. Richmond is a great team. Not like they played Howard and loss. They loss to a great team.
GameDay offers App, we will take it in a heart beat. Perfect setting on duck pond field. Stadium in the background, and plenty of room in the field.

Re: College Gameday JMU
Don't get me wrong. You don't turn it down, and I'd be upset if we did. Still, this is something you take with the understanding that your whole week of preparation, especially from Wednesday on -- when ESPN starts to set up and do interviews -- will be thrown waaaayyyyy off.
It's a distraction if you allow it to be, but make no mistake, it's a distraction if you don't allow it to be. Still, it's an opportunity you don't turn down.

You could argue bringing the team out was a mistake, but ultimately...really...do you think it threw the team off their game? They put up 40 something points on a damn good team but just got beat. JMU had an announced attendance of 26,600...huge turn out. It's an opportunity to wave a big JMU flag on national tv. It's never a bad thing to host gameday.AppinVA wrote:Not sure I'd trade it for a loss. I explained my position above.
