Tacoi Sumler - NFL draft

Ran across this article. I knew this was the plan, but was hoping he would come back for another year. I think the team really rallied around him this year. If he stays, I think we would be very dangerous with everyone coming back.

Best of luck to the young man, but I'm not sure the NFL will be able to find enough film on him in all his time here at App. As long as he doesn't hire an agent, he can "test the waters" right? I agree that he could make an impact this year.

Once you declare for the NFL Draft and the deadline passes there is no going back. It's not like baseball. Although it'd be in many of these kids' best interest if it were.

How does it work with kids who have graduated but still have a year of eligibility left- as far as school goes? Do they have to enroll in a graduate program and take the subsequent work load or can they just take a couple of classes? Makes me wonder what the number is of guys in this category who stick around basically just to play one more year. In the case of Sumler did anyone try hard to talk him into staying and does he REALLY think he has a legit shot at the pros or did someone get in his ear? At any rate, good luck.

He's got to stay healthy to get a chance in the NFL. Unfortunately he was never at 100% with App and I personally believe another year would give him the chance to build a better resume. Best of luck to him in his NFL quest and congratulations on graduating!

He's got the speed to get people's attention. Be curious to see how it all plays out, but as we've seen, short receivers don't do so well in the NFL and there are very few Steve Smiths.
Has degree, might as well take a shot.

I just hope he doesn't end up like Jamal Jackson. Jackson still spends most of his time training for the pros. Someone close to him needs to break it to him: dude, it's time to hang up the cleats and get a real job.

Guys, I'm sorry but this thread is a laugher. He was buried on APPs depth chart for whatever the reasons and suddenly he'll get looks in the NFL??? C'mon
He'd best get a day job like the rest of us.

I'm with you. Hate to say it but he can't stay healthy at App nor could beat out the "slower" guys we have. If he can't do that here then he won't in the NFL. I wish him well in the future but the NFL is not in his future.
I don't like to tell someone they can't do something because people have said it to me and it fueled me but this is about physical ability and skills to play football.
I guess he could take a crack at the CFL, dominate for two years, and then come to the NFL but I am not even sure he would dominate up there. Going the CFL route would depend on how badly he wants to make it and if he really has football in him or just a track guy playing football like most believe he is.

I think you may have misread the article. "Fourteen underclassmen who declared for the draft were also
not invited. Wide receivers ... and Tacoi Sumler (Appalachian State)". Not surprised he was not invited but
shocked that Kendall Lamm will not be at the combine. I really think someone missed something there.

Yes, I did misread it. Thanks for the correction.

Part of his problme is that his agent was paying Jeff Blake to train him. Blake was telling him he had a shot. You would think these college graduates and agents would realize that the person you are paying 10-15k is going to give you positive words and when NFL teams aren't calling those words are basically being paid for. Stop paying him to train you and he stops with them. Jackson never was a real NFL prospect. I didn't get the hype on him. I like him as a person and appreciate what he did for App but he is not a NFL guy. I don't even think he is athletic enough to play in the CFL. It is indeed time he gets a real job.

Let these guys chase their dream while they're young. They have plenty of time get "a real" job.
