2Q fumble?

Unread post by HBTApps » Sun Nov 23, 2014 7:35 pm

First, This is my first time i have posted on any type of board. I have followed this site for a while and love it, especially you firemoose, I love the recruiting news. I go to every home game and do my best to go to at least 1 away game/year. I am also sorry if my below topic has already been discussed.

To me it looked like the UL Player that recovered the fumble was not down when he recovered the ball, it looked like he casually picked it up not knowing it was a fumble, he then tossed the ball to the ref who did not catch it and then it was later picked up after the whistle by our player. The whistle blew after the ball was thrown to the ref by the UL player, not still in the possession of the UL Player. I wasn't sure if I was the only one to notice this or did I miss something or if the ruling was correct, it just did not sit right with me.

While I don't and won't post often, I do appreciate those of you that do (minus the occasional drama  ). It is a great place visit and get new info and different prospective of my fellow apps. Thanks

I went back and watched the replay and from what I could tell, you are correct. I didn't see a bean bag or hear a whistle prior to the UL player throwing the ball back to the ref. there had to be more to it because I can imagine the coaches would have been more animated and challenged the play if there were no whistle to end the play.

I went back and re watched it, too. I think the refs got away with a big screw up. I thought maybe, somewhere in the middle of all that a UL player may have recovered it that we couldn't see and the then turned it loose but different angles showed clearly that the ball was loose from the time Marcus lost it until the the UL players picked it up and tossed it to the ref.

The ball should have still been alive. I'd be real interested in hearing from an official about a ruling if this was the correct result, but I think everyone just screwed up on this one, refs, players and coaches.

I agree, everyone messed up on that play. Like you said, either we did not see someone gain possession on the ground, which they still should have blown the play dead if that was the case, or since the UL player was the last to have possession of the ball when the whistle was blown they were given possession back, even though he did not have possession when the whistle was blown. No matter, it was a messy job by everyone, especially the refs on that play.
