Reading the comments some of the Bama folks thought Western played dirty.
You are so right. He is such an elitist. Coach Speir's comments were spot on.BeauFoster wrote:Herbstreit is an idiot and a dork. I stopped watching Gameday years ago, his opinions being much of the reason. I'm glad Speir said this, and I'm sure that the whole "cupcake" episode from 2007 factored in to his comments.
To me its not that he said FCS shouldn't play FBS. Its that he openly mocks FCS schools and those he deems unworthy to play on the holy grounds of major college football. I agree with Speir. He coaches kids who are there to get an education but are being belittled on national TV by a bully who has never coached on been in Westerns position. Don't forget that app still falls under his umbrella of those unworthy to play the major schools. It bugs me the most when I turn on sports center and I see the same power 5 replays all day long. Go back an look at how uninterested the "gameday" announcers are in fargo. they don't care about NDSU their producers wanted that location. I would love to see whats going on with other schools and even be filled in on the FCS playoffs if they had the time.APPARJ wrote:I don't understand what's so controversial about this. Herbstreit has an opinion that millions of others share. Don't agree with him? Okay. I don't necessarily think he's completely wrong, either. WCU only played Bama because WCU needs money and Bama needed a game that was as close to a bye-week as possible. I am friends with Bama season ticket holders and they didn't even think twice about going to this game. Bama fans don't want these games. Is it really a big deal to say these games shouldn't happen? I know we benefited from money games when we were in the SoCon but I just don't understand the outrage people have when Herbstreit says FBS shouldn't play FCS.
If you want App to continue playing at the highest level you should be concerned. ESPN has started a somewhat salient compaign to get their wish of a P5 only division. They downgrade all G5s and lump them with the FCS. Next year they will start giving more love to the FCS TV with an "FCS" kickoff game. They will dangle a carrot in a few years for us to relive the late 70's early 80's.APPARJ wrote:I don't understand what's so controversial about this. I guess BAMA & The SEC play like angels?hapapp wrote:Reading the comments some of the Bama folks thought Western played dirty.
I have been saying this for a while and it's only more blatant with the recent formation or reshaping of the college football landscape. There is a cartel or money grab between the 3 & 4 letter networks/ P5s. If you are not one of them, tough shilooski sniffing the BIG money or a Championship, it ain't happening. If you aren't P5, you are a bastard child in the college football world. Just let the networks tell you how great the P5 is, the SEC especially.Saint3333 wrote:APPARJ wrote:I don't understand what's so controversial about this. When he speaks on this matter, I hear a commentator that either speaks from a position of being without knowledge or knowing all of the facts and omitting the ones that don't help his case. We all know that these games exist to help support smaller programs fund their athletic budgets and Corso brought that up. Herbie's solution was to pay the schools toff and not play the game. He either is an elitist or he is stupid for not understanding the picture. I think that it would be a great grass roots effort to write Arthur Blank at Home Depot and tell him that we will no longer watch Gameday or support his company has long as they sponsor the show. If money drives the bus that would certainly make the point.APPARJ wrote:I don't understand what's so controversial about this. Herbstreit has an opinion that millions of others share. Gameday has steadily lost viewers in the last 5 or so years. I looked it up earlier this season in reference to corporate sponsorship $. They've tried some new things to spice it up, this may be another thing dictated from the top. Kirk may be told to say controversial things to drum up viewers.AppSt94 wrote:When he speaks on this matter, I hear a commentator that either speaks from a position of being without knowledge or knowing all of the facts and omitting the ones that son't help his case.
