Next up - UL Lafayette

Great win last week. What a roller coaster of a season!
After looking up some stats, I see our next game as very winnable. Ul lost all three of their FBS OOC games (although they were good teams) and is fifth in the conference in total offense and sixth in total defense. App is currently second in total offense and first in total defense. Ul likes to run the ball and has a stout run D and weak pass D. If we can just be average on special teams and Lamb passes efficiently, I like our chances!
What do you see as the keys to winning this game?

Continue our physical, aggressive play. Continue to improve.
Limit penalties and protect the ball.
Need to be better on special teams.
I think we can make this game interesting, and I think we defnitely have their attention. Need to show up saturday and prove it.
Are we having fun yet?

If I'm correct, I think stAte's RB was #2 in the conference and we held him less than 90 yards.
I know ULL is good, but "D" wins games and we have been playing lights out. Our "D" made stAte look like a really bad team Saturday (0-11 on 3rd down). And we won on the road, which makes it even better.
I think our kids have the fight in their hearts now, and Sat's play calling is freaking AWESOME now. The playbook has been opened up and we are just kicking everyone's A$$, 450+ yards a game. This should be a fun game to watch, AND I WILL BE THERE!!!!! YIPPIE!!!!
If our "D" plays Saturday like it did against stAte, we win!!!!!!
Go Apps!!!!!!

This will be a very physical game but it appears the Apps are up to the challenge. Both lines have been very physical the last 4 games and appear to be getting better and better. Just clean up special teams and don't give away points and field position and the Apps have a chance to pull another victory. Both teams are playing their best ball now so it should be a good one.

ULL is a different animal than StAte. I certainly feel better about our chances than I did a week ago but size-wise they will present some problems on the line. I doubt we can have the same kind of ST miscues this week and expect to win.

As stated if our D shows up like they have the past 4 games then we definitely have a chance. Once again. Score 30 plus and we statistically have an advantage. I'm just glad we don't have a restaurant logo on our field or part of our image.

This is my understanding as well - that A-State relies on a smaller, faster D-line, whereas ULL is bigger.
Sounds to me like we might need to rely slightly more on the passing game. However, we've been pretty balanced the last couple weeks, so I don't think that's the worst thing. And I'm sure Cox will still get plenty of carries.

The biggest differences between A-State and UL-L in lines is on the D side. While A-St had a couple of bigger guys starting on the O line all of UL-L starters listed are 295 (3) or over 300 (2). The D-Line is different as DE's are listed over 300 and so are the NG's. So yes they are bigger than A-State on the D side.
X factor one is do we have a two man or three rotation on the nose. Even if TF is able to play with a brace he won't be 100% but we can't afford to lose either Burns or Small so that's going to be one to watch.
A-State's QB is having a better overall season but Broadway was the pre-season POTY so he's still a Dual Threat to contain (just short of 1,800 yds passing and 600 yds rushing so far).
Biggest difference I see is, regardless of what they said/say, A-State didn't take us seriously. Read all week how all our wins came against the bottom dwellers and that our stats were inflated because of it. Don't believe UL-L will make that same mistake.
Bottom line is UL-L is still the top team in the Belt based on SOS (beat A-St 55-40). As others have said we can't afford the ST mistakes. We are playing our best ball of the season right now (other than ST). They are playing for at least a share of the Belt title and the best bowl game. We are dinged up at nose. Both teams are feeling the long season right now. Long range weather is calling for 73 while it doesn't get above 45 here (not above 30 until Wednesday). Toss it all into a bowl and Sat is going to be interesting.

We have actually had very good luck with injuries this season. Hope Fernandez can make it back soon.

We gave up a ST TD and had a -2 in turnover margin. We clean up those to aspects of the game and we have a legit shot in this one.

I think this game comes down to our obvious glaring weakness- special teams. We should be able to limit the big play, adjust to their play calling, control the ball with sustainded drives. We can't afford to lose the field position aspect. Can't give up the big return yards nor can we afford to make bad penalties on kick returns that pin us back. Obvious stuff I know. I just don't see a high scoring slug it out game like ULa La had with Ark St. I wonder if ST will get more work this week and will we see some new faces next Saturday?

We are something aren't we? Last week the loss predictions were 5-1 and we were going to get whipped by at least 14 points on average. Now we are all on the positive side. I would be sending the special team's coach to work out in the rain today. If I see another rugby kick inside our own 40 I will go postal.

From the "Ragin' Pagin'":
Louisiana will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 22, when it plays host to Appalachian State in the home finale at Cajun Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN3. The game will mark the final home appearance for 21 seniors, who have helped accumulate 34 wins since 2011 – the best four-year mark in school history
Tough assignment to be sure, but it's been a crazy season, and we are a young, talented, dangerous team on a roll with nothing to lose.

I'm not trying to be a debbie downer after a great win last week but I think we are setup for a set back this week at ULL.
Going back on the road to a hostile environment in Louisiana after an emotional win at Ark St will take a toll on our guys this weekend. Some of our guys are pretty dinged up as well from this past weekend.
I'd feel better if this one was in the friendly confines of KBS to give our kids that extra time of recovery instead of travel for the second straight week. I hope our kids can get up again for another road test and we can pull off another upset against a Sun Belt power!
GO 'NEERS!

I think we can throw the ball prett well on them, and should have a good enough run game to keep them honest. The biggest concern I have is our D-Line depth. We are down to 2 NT now amd if Dada is out again we only have 3 DE available. Last week we got off the field quickly so our guys were rested, but I'm worried ULL will just try to pound us until those linemen wear down. The offense will have to control the clock.

Yea I can see a let down. We have been hot of recent and we went on the road to play a very good team and won and now we go on the road again the following week. It wouldn't surprise me if there is an emotional let down but I would expect our guys and coaches to play for the entire 60 minutes.

The D-line and O-line do make me nervous. South Alabama's O-line caused us fits earlier in the season and our guys are still a bit under sized.
Go App!
