Love stories like this, to me that is having ones head in the sand and not addressing the pressing issues.

I agree that the kids are hurting, but I'll tell you the most concerning issue to me. I did not see one player on the sidelines show any leadership. get in anyones face, get vocal. Just sat on the bench.
to me that is sad and concerning after seeing what good leaders and holding others accountable that we used to have.

And no, I don't have my head in the sand. I see the same thing as you. I just want the fans to truly support the team.

And if you haven't seen leadership, then you're not looking. Hell, Gilchrist got a personal foul for getting into Ford's face and taking his helmet off on the field during the South Alabama game. If that's not leadership, being vocal, or getting in someone's face, I don't know what is.

Can we not go through the "if you complain about losing you don't support the players" routine?
99% of fans understand the sacrifices of the players. Obviously they aren't content with losing. I don't think many (if any) are blaming the 19 year olds.
Is there a fan base in the country that doesn't complain when their teams lose? Especially when the do so consistently for multiple seasons.
Of course many people's knee jerk reactions and comments are a little over dramatic and off base, but do they not have the right to voice their concerns and displeasure, and speculate why the downfall has occurred?
Losing to western in 04 is not like losing to western in 06-13.
I hope Satterfield turns it around and may well do so but until then I reserve my right to complain express displeasure and question coaching decisions that seem questionable and should be able to do do without having my support for the players and university challenged.

This is not directed at you personally ---
There is a difference between questioning calls or strategy and being upset with the losses AND continually screaming to fire the coaches ---

Well said Rock. Amazing how some folks think they have the right to tell others how to think, feel, and react. Believe it or not, a fan can voice frustration over a subpar performance via a message board, and its OK. I haven't seen any torches or pitchforks in downtown Boone. Some of these same folks verbally attacked fans who dared to question the job performance of an unnamed basketball coach. One of the best gifts we can give our student athletes is high expectations. If we didn't believe in them, we wouldn't be so upset today. Go APP!!!

To be clear, that letter wasn't written to the fans that are complaining and expressing their opinions. That letter was written to the numerous (not all on here) "fans" that have said they won't give a dollar or attend any more games until Satterfield is gone.

I'm all for criticism on a message board -- that's what it's for. I am not ok with a spoiled fan base that can't have it their way so they take their ball and go home.

They didn't see Gilchrist do that because they were too busy looking at the sideline to see how the coaches were reacting so they could then come on this board and complain about it

It was Gibbs btw, not Ford. i haven't seen Ford on the field since Michigan

Enjoyed the article. It gives us perspective. I strongly hope that Coach Sat stays the course. In these times of peril the head coach must show strong leadership and confidence. I'm sure both the players and our young assistant coaches are pondering what's going on. We can't have shifting sand now! As fans this season clearly hurts, but I can't imagine the pain going through our players and coaches. Frankly, for the team everything is on the line: players have only four brief years to live their dream and young coaches are trying to build a life for themselves and their families. As a season ticket holder I'm in it for the long haul. Yeh, I may gripe every once in awhile, but at the end of the day I'm behind the team, no matter what. Go App!

No, it was Alex Gray. He is one of the biggest issues on this team from an attitude standpoint. Gilchrist about took his head off.

Mad,
Great point about the expectations. One of the things that has bothered me the most about this season is all the talk about playing for the future. I am really upset for the guys who are playing right now. They deserve to have a coaching staff that is doing everything they can to help these guys be competitive RIGHT NOW!!!! It seems like we have simply decided to sacrifice this year. If your a senior or junior that's horrible for you. It could also be a really hard thing to recover from.

Over the course of the season (3 games starting for Alex), he has piled up 3 late hit penalties and 2 unsportsmanlike penalties. And I remember going back and seeing that it was Gray. It's not like Alex has had the best of pasts either.

Monday morning, I was listening to John Feinstein's sports talk show on CBS radio. The subject of college bowls came up and it was the call-in consensus that all the bowls will now become "minor" bowls--their words, not mine--except for the bowls involved in the BCS rotation in any particular year.

That has been my question from the git go. Is there any difference in playing in any of the vast number of now "minor" bowls--eventually, sometime--than winning three "minor" national football championships and competing for other ones each year?

Other than the potential of going to "Somebody's (minor) Bowl" game, what have we really gained by this move up? We were already there in all other sports except football.

Can anyone name even 10 of the 36 bowl games that were played last year?

It was #27, Gibbs, who Gilchrist tore his helmet off to let him have it and to collect an unsportsmanlike penalty.
