DJ Response to Caller

A caller in the post game show went off on Satterfield. Called for his head. Admittedly he was a bit over the top. I really did not like DJ's response. Basically he said we should give Satt a break because he is a former Mountaineer. Bled on the field for us. I agree it is not time to call for the coach's head but fans have a right to question what is going on when we are 5-12 under this coach and just lost to a team in lower division. Again not saying the caller is right but dismissing his complaint the way DJ did is bogus.

He let the caller have the floor most shows would have cut him off.

You would have really hated it had Brownie been there.

I heard that guys call, and I would say from his standpoint he has every right to feel the way he does. He pays money to watch a product, when the product is terrible and is an embarrassment you start over.

I think Satt needs to go without a doubt.

It's not David's place nor his job to speculate about firing the coach

I wish Brownie had of been there to respond to the question. Could tell DJ wasn't very happy/just as frustrated as the caller. But then even more frustrated after trying 3 times to get the caller on the air - and his comment being what it was. I thought DJ handled it professionally. In his role, while a fan, he has to be a voice of reason.

While we are on the subject of the postgame show, has anyone else noticed they only seem to field calls from 1 maybe 2 callers after each game? When did IMG change the post-game format? Sure wish there were more callers and/or time allotted for Q&A.

Dave showed class and job loyality. He works in the same athletic department as the man. Every other call in show woulda axed the guy 15 seconds in. And they shortened Q&A when the losing started. Just easier to deal with.

I knew they did that, good luck quieting the masses with this one. I haven't ran into one person who thinks Satterfield should stay. I get that the Walmart fans have all but packed up and left, we have also lost some of the Stay in the SoCon folks, now we are losing our core fans. They want him gone, and so do I. This is embarrassing.

I don't want Satt gone tomorrow. I knew he had a huge uphill battle when he took over. The attrition on the team 2010-2012 coupled with a move up in competition was going to a bumpy road. I didn't think it would be this bad and I don't think the results are acceptable. However when he took over I said I'd give him a minimum of three years, we are 50% through that timeframe and things aren't looking good. I want to see change but he's got 18 more games before I'd agree it is time.

It is time to try something new on defense however, that is where we are losing games. And of course place kicking, that is brutal.

I don't agree with you. We need to give coach time. But appreciate your opinion and I can certainly see why you would be upset.

The crap about bled on the field for us sounds too much like "you are with us or against us to me".

This is horrible but Satterfied isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Though it still shocks me, the wise leaders of the university just gave him a contract extension.

David is one of our best assets, but IMO, the 'bled on the field' stuff is nonsense. Being a good quarterback is not the same as being a good coach. The coach is pretty important, not a position to give to the family cousin.. That is the ball boy position.

He did not get an extension, only a salary adjustment when we moved to FBS.

So the news stories were incorrect?

You're right. I stand corrected. I just looked this correction up:

http://www.wataugademocrat.com/sports/u ... 1fbd0.html

The adjustment is also unwarranted, and it is somewhat funny how they use "adjustment" instead of raise. This language (as the correction) was surely due to the fact a raise (extension) is somewhat offensive to fans that want a better product and the primary people working at the university that can't get a decent raise.

Love DJ and what he does for App, but he was out of line here. He should have said thanks for the call and your opinion and left it at that. The bled for stuff is just rediculous. Has nothing to do with being the worst team in FBS and that IS on the coach.

It was in his original contract.
