OK - here goes --- While I agree with most that last night's performance was poor, I am nowhere near the point of some who describe this team as losers who don't seem to care and there is not even a 1% in 100% thought of firing the coaches - PERIOD !!!
1. I am wondering where some of you left behind the pre-season mantra of "Be patient, this will take time, it's a multi-year process?" Is this now a belief that is in the rear-view mirror? After just two SunBelt games?
2. To be clear, I was not at the game but did watch on ESPN3 and I know fully that many intangible items can be picked up when one is at a game in person as compared to watching on TV
3. Personally, I feel it is way too early in the season to make any judgments on whether this team is improving or not from week to week - I say that because we haven't played enough of a cross-section of SunBelt teams - We have played GaSo, our rival, at their place and against a team which had major payback on their minds AND they just happen to be 3-0 and in 1st place --- and USA who is 2-1 with 2 big road wins and their only loss to #1 GaSo
4. Now, last night's game --- Welcome to FBS football --- At least on TV, USA looked bigger, stronger, faster, tougher and better. They have had 6 years to build toward the present, as 78 pointed out earlier in the week, USA has 34 transfers (JC or 4year) and started 8 seniors on offense and 8 seniors on defense - from my count we had 2 seniors on offense and 2 seniors on defense
5. There were a couple of things from last night I didn't understand - What was with the rugby punting? - usually teams who do that don't have a punter who can hit the ball high and long --- still don't understand some of the play calling at the beginning of games? - definitely not enough pressure on their QB, but must admit the Bridge kid was impressive --- still too many stupid penalties - our RBs looked small and slow
6. If you didn't see the game on ESPN3 I will say that Al Groh offered some great insights and commentary - He did say several times that APP had a big hurdle to get ready for week in - week out FBS play - he mentioned our youth numerous times and commented that Coach Satterfield was doing it right way
7. Steve and David, as well as Al Groh, made the comment that the real fan should not try to compare teams moving up at similar times simply because teams are not starting at the same place as far as number of experienced players, overall plan, types of offense/defense, etc.
8. Some of you can say that you are tired of hearing about how "young" we are and you can keep on saying it and the others of us will keep saying it is the main reason we are struggling - There is no way this can be overstated- we are young and these guys aren't going to be Seniors and Juniors 3 weeks from now
9. It never ceases to amaze me how some of you are single-mindedly consumed with "FIRING" people -
10. I'm seeing what most everyone predicted 2 years ago as we started this move up - Losses, disgruntled fans, drop in attendance, lack of fan interest in the "new" conference members, struggles to compete at the FBS level, etc., - Well here we are !!!

I am a bit surprised but we are at a major disadvantage on the O and D Lines. I didn't think that we would be that far behind but obviously are. Other than staying with zone coverage which has killed us all year, we may not have a choice as our Dline does not get the push needed to disrupt the passing game. I remain on the side that we will improve and I have faith....but definitely need to recruit effectively on the lines to compete in the SB.

Rugby style kicks… this was not done due to having a deficiency at punter. The other reason for doing this is when you want to make sure the opposing returner doesn't get any clean returns. I will say that we probably went that route because they were scared of USA's return game.

I agree with the size and speed difference. We looked small. I also wondered why, early in the game, when we had a chance to flip the field position, we used the rugby style punt. Our punter has a big leg and could have easily flipped the field. I really want to be patient, but the undisciplined penalties make that difficult.

The only coaching changes I feel are needed are in special teams.
The play was still very poor, but it's not a lost cause. Some of our players aren't every week FBS players. That'll take time.
If your haven't listened to DJ and Brownie postgame, go back and do so. They spout some serious wisdom.

Whenever we lose, which is often lately, I go to other schools message boards, to try and put it in perspective, for example, after losing yesterday, some Charlotte 49 fans are calling for the firing of the head coach and his staff, and that some fans aren't going to attend anymore games until they put a better team on the field, they are actually acting like they have been playing football for the last 50 years, and they have some kind of Rich football tradition!! Point is, every fan base in America has fans that make crazy statements after loses, you just have to take a deep breath, look at the situation rationally, and hope things work out.

I disagreed with the designed runs for Kam in the 4th. We obviously don't want to play the shirt off JP, there is no need to run your QB when the game has been decided.
I was wrong I thought we'd get better each week and see new players step up each week. That didn't happen last night. Too many presnap penalties, drops, silly fouls. The most disappointing aspect was that USA was more physical than we were. Their olineman finish blocks at the line and then follow the play. They looked like a contender for the SBC championship, we can't make every team we play look like that.

That might be true but it did demonstrate that Kam is capable of taking the ball and running. Quite frankly, I was surprised at how we well he ran the ball.

I see the reasons for going with Taylor - I went with the Fr. and So. one year when I was coaching knowing they needed the experience even though it was painful some days - but I honestly don't see much difference in the two in their passing skills - Al Groh mentioned last night that Taylor was starting over Kam because he made decisions fractions of seconds quicker than Kam - I do think Taylor is the better runner of the two - I believe we have 2 guys who can do the job ---

This is going to be a l-o-o-o-o-n-g work in progress. We still don't have the player personnel of an FBS title-contender. Upgrades will be required.
We also don't have the experienced staff of an FBS title-contender at every position. We need, and must have, upgrades in key (staff) places.
Every successful HC has, at some point along the way, had to fire a coach who's also a personal friend. He without the grit and toughness to non-renew a coaching friend in order to improve his staff is headed for a train wreck. Does Scott have that grit? Time will tell. He has some time to get it done; but not forever. If he drags his feet on this, it'll be a detriment to our football program and to Scott's coaching career.

As Brownie said pre-game yesterday when you start to notice special teams because they are hurting you, that's a problem.
Also, I'm not sold on Woody.

When Kam was rubbing the ball USA was in a soft zone, I wouldn't read to much into his numbers.
I've never been a fan of the 3-4 at the college level unless you have SEC level talent.

Basically, it's like this. You get a lot of former coaches who do color commentary, most of the time they aren't really all that good.
Groh was very well prepared on the personnel for both teams and each and every play he offered insight into what was being run and why.
He also really seems to like Taylor Lamb, says he has a bright future and several times said once we get the size and speed we need at ALL positions, we will be fine.

One toe at a time people... Saw a lot of leadership emerging in Lamb last night. We have a long road ahead. No reason to not support our players, our coaches or our school. I'd dare say, to those suggesting firings of staff, and such, dial in reality friends. I'll be watching for your "metal" in team support.. are you worthy?

I don't care what defense USA was in, Kam ran with authority. One can say something good about one QB without it being taken as a vote for one over the other. I would think we as App fans would see that as a positive that he has the ability to do that if/when needed. Quite frankly, I was surprised to see him take off like he did.

Last nights loss is pretty easy to break down. They had a bunch of grown men pushing our young boys around. We all know our lines have a lot of catching up to do, but what really stood out was the size of their skill players compared to ours. We are probably two years away from being a contender unless some of our young guys make huge strides. The poor strength and conditioning program the past two years is painfully obvious now.
The rugby punts are frustrating, but I guess the coaches were tired of having punts blocked.
No matter what I'll be back in KBS next week.
