We missed a ton of assignments yesterday. Guys that should have had contain over persued and lefts huges gaps. The bad angles taken may be why I'm fairly optimistic today. Our interior defense played well and I could tell we have great athletes. These are mistakes that can be corrected by watching film and learning where to be on the field. We'll see major improvements by the S. miss. I believe.

What I liked about yesterday was that the team appeared to never give up. They didn't roll over. When that unprepared team was steamrolled in Blacksburg a few seasons back, it looked like we were just going through the motions to collect the check. That didn't happen yesterday.

And we ran the ball fairly well.

So the coaches didn't prepare the WR's for man press coverage? I saw it mentioned 2-3 times on this board to expect that from their DB's. After seeing it for a half, did the coaches not think to make adjustments with their play calling? Maybe use some motion, multiple back sets, more pick/rub routes, etc... I get they don't want to show the entire play book in week 1 but that seems like a cop out excuse.

The DL played well as did the OL when run blocking. Love the two headed monster at RB! As mentioned, LB's and DB's over persued and took bad angles on multiple occasions but they should learn from the film.

The biggest weakness by far on this year's team is WR. They, along with the coaches, did Kam no favors. Yesterday was my first time seeing Lamb and he looked impressive. Still not ready to turn the reigns over just yet but I think Kam's leash got shorter.

I think some adjustments were made at the half with relation to receivers. We stopped calling the wr screen and tried to stretch the field a little, with both qbs in the game. And as Satt said, they didn't run the defense that they played yesterday at all last season.

Most of those assignments were missed by younger guus getting aggressive, which was okay. These guys fought and I really appreciated that effort. My biggest disappointment was John Law. He really played poorly and was missing his gap responsibility a ton.

If we go to two back formations it will be a nightmare. Both Cox & Upshaw can play. I didn't see that Saturday and hope we do in the future. I also miss the days of using a WR to run the option. Go Apps!
