Re: Home Field Advantage
I would love to see something analyze what he write predictions with what happens and do so for some years back. How good is he or is his analysis as much of a crap shot as mine would be?hapapp wrote:Phil Steele not impressed with the Rock in terms of home field advantage.

Phil Steele is the best in the business. His college football mag is a must have if you are a college football fan. Excited to see a black and gold page in there this year.

"The smallest capacity is Idaho’s Kibbie Dome which seated just 16,000 and they received a 0 in that category. The rest of the capacities are done with a simple equation of Capacity-16,000 divided by 15,650. The reason I divide by 15,650 is that Michigan at 109,901-16,000 = 93,901 and 93,901 divided by 6 (0-6 scale) = 15,650. You can figure out what your favorite team is graded in this category by using this simple equation.
The second category is actual attendance reported by the school in 2013. Once again Michigan was at the top with 111,592 and this time the team at the bottom was Eastern Michigan, which averaged just 4,051 fans per game last year.

Re: Home Field Advantage
Phil Steele cannot even get even simple facts right:
"Georgia St, Idaho and Massachusetts who have won just 3 home games in the last 3 years."
Not true.

Re: Home Field Advantage
Without reading Phil's article, I'm not very impressed either over the last few years, we've choked on some easy teams, as well as lost to some big games in which we looked like we had no clue, but more talent. Hoping that'll start to turn over the next few seasons.hapapp wrote:Phil Steele not impressed with the Rock in terms of home field advantage.

Re: Home Field Advantage
Ga Southern is rated significantly higher than we are. And some of his calculations are based on attendance and attendance v. capacity, which would likely be in our favor compared to some who seem to rank higher than we do.Black Saturday wrote:Without reading Phil's article, I'm not very impressed either over the last few years, we've choked on some easy teams, as well as lost to some big games in which we looked like we had no clue, but more talent. For those who say numbers never lie, that's not true. Any number besides other final score can lie and distort the matte-of-fact truth.

The best can still be a POS, just that everyone else is an even bigger POS with predictions.IGgreer wrote:Phil Steele is the best in the business. His college football mag is a must have if you are a college football fan. Excited to see a black and gold page in there this year.

Re: Home Field Advantage
Just a personal observation. Duke and Temple seem out of place. And i believe our atmosphere as a HFA is equal to Wake and Marshall over the past five years.

What preseason magazine do you geniuses get all of your info? Maybe I should switch...

Re: Home Field Advantage
This is nice if you have nothing else to talk about. We have no FBS home field advantage to measure anyway. We have to build one starting this year.

Re: Home Field Advantage
We should be able to since some of the teams won't match us on the road attendance wise compared to what we will draw at home.Rekdiver wrote:This is nice if you have nothing else to talk about. We have no FBS home field advantage to measure anyway. We have to build one starting this year.

Re: Home Field Advantage
I can't buy into a system that ranks Duke over us for home field advantage. We have a over full stadium of screaming students and fans, and the Duke fans are waiting for basketball to get here.
I guess his "magic #" (how it sound on TV) doesn't work for teams that are not on TV or not filmed by the networks "A" team.

If you used his formula at the end of the 2005-2010 seasons we'd all agree with the formula.
Win home games and the factor goes up.

Re: Home Field Advantage
I would still question how he factors in w/l record, after any season. If he's trying to decide Home Field Advantage it would seem he would have to consider Home W/L's vs Away W/L's (and really that's about all he would have to consider). How many seats there are or butts in the seats don't really matter if it doesn't translate to more wins at home vs away. Or that's what I understand Home Field Advantage to mean.Saint3333 wrote:If you used his formula at the end of the 2005-2010 seasons we'd all agree with the formula.

I think what he's trying to calculate is "loudest fans/stadium" or something and using a "W's" for some indication that teams with a winning record should be louder or something (which we know isn't necessarily true).
