I have noticed watching the practice reports that there seems to be a covering of some type of the front crown of the helmets - anyone know what this is? ---

It's that clear material put there by mfg. (or possibly equipment manager) to keep helmet from being scratched... App will remove it prior to 1st game as well as apply "A" to sides.
