What about Ga Southern?
Don't get me wrong I am very pleased that Ga Southern lost... but also didn't see that happening? What's up with that.... considering that the Citadel has given us some close games I am now wondering about next week? If that isn't enough to be thinking about Wofford 82 to zip over Lincoln? Who the heck is Lincoln anyway? What do you guys think???

Re: What about Ga Southern?
The Citadel has been tough at home. Maybe they were due. They have to bring that same energy to our house. So if we play smart and tough ball then we should be fine. BUT will the next round of suspensions hit this week or next? Dunno. Time will tell.
To answer your Wofford question, Lincoln is a D2 school out of Pennslvania. So the score should be expected. I think that's a dumb scheduling move b/c if it comes to quality wins that cupcake game does nothing for Wofford. JMHO

Re: What about Ga Southern?
I got to thinking about Lincoln playing Wofford. What in the hell would be the motivation for Lincoln to schedule a game like that? It sure can't be a money game, can it? because I cant see how they can make enough at Wofford to even break even on the trip. It can'y be a prestige game for recruiting purposes: "Look who we play...WOFFORD!" I doubt there's more than three people in Pennsylvania that have ever heard of Wofford. A fun road trip perhaps? To Spartanburg, SC???? I'm being a bit tongue in cheek here, but the core of my question is real. What could be the motivation from Lincoln's perspective?

Maybe they thought Wofford was Division II.

Talent wise MH, LR, and SS may be on the same level or very close, but SS does count as a DI win, just like playing non-scholly DI, and in that sense I don't think DII compares to Sav State, which a slight notch better on paper.Appersrule wrote:Its no worse than us playing Mars Hill or Lenior Rhyne or even Savannah State.

Re: What about Ga Southern?
Was it scheduled very late and there were not many options for either to fill out a schedule. I don't know, but that is about the only reason. At least when we played LR it was a 1/2 trip up the mountain, and there was a lot of history between the schools going back decades.AppinATL wrote:I got to thinking about Lincoln playing Wofford. Regarding GSU, they have a young team and a rookie QB. Very seldom does a new QB come into their system and not have some bumps in the road. Unfortunately, they will have a more seasoned QB by the time they play us. Until proven otherwise, I would assume they will be a handful by November.

I'll gladly take any conference loss they get along with the one we will give them.MountainMan wrote:Regarding GSU, they have a young team and a rookie QB. Re: What about Ga Southern?
Guys, if you remember, the only difference between last year's result in this game and this year's is that this year, Citadel's kicker made the FG near the end of the game and last year, the guy missed it. Otherwise, the game is essentially the same. I listened to the last bit of it leaving the Furman game last year, already in a funk and was let down again when they missed that FG that would have won it and given us a share of the conference championship (not that we deserved it).
Citadel apparently has Southern's number. They have played us tough too, of course. Hopefully, this isn't the year they finally get it done with us, too. But I love what I'm seeing so far with our team playing-wise and attitude-wise so I think we'll be ready for them.

Re: What about Ga Southern?
always like to go over to the GS message board after a loss, and as predicted, they are in melt down mode, basically the season is over, and they will be lucky not to finish in the bottom of the conference. Total overreaction, loss game becouse of 2 gift turnovers in the first half that led to easy points for Citidel, breaking in a new qb, and a field goal kicker, who basically shanked the potential tying field goal. This was a gift to us, and probably not a sign of things to come for GS, they are going to be fine.
Re: What about Ga Southern?
This was a tough loss. But as mentioned they always place us tough. We spotted them 14 points off turnovers in 1st quarter. We battle back to take the lead. Then lost the lead. Was down 23-21 with 35 seconds to go. They kicked off to us and 34 seconds later we missed a 30 yg fg to win the game. Anyway ... we'll be fine .... I still like our chances to settle the Socon with App in November

Re: What about Ga Southern?
Before the season started, I had the El Cit game marked as our "trap" game...being sandwiched between an emotional game with Montana and a BIG road game with Chatty. I think Citadel's victory on Saturday will have our player's full attention. If we play disciplined/assignment defense and do not give the game away on offense (no turnovers)...we should win this game.
GSU is always tough to beat in Gnatsboro and this year will be no different. Wofford will also be a tough out!!! This year's SoCon Champ will probably have at least 1 loss.
