What's the origin of the "Keep Calm" meme?

Came from the London bombing (The Blitz) during WWII.

The posters in London during the blitz: "Keep Calm and Carry On"

Dr. Who fans will know there was a recent revival of the poster marketed to Whovians as "Keep Calm and DON'T BLINK" which came from a classic episode where terrifying "Weeping Angel" statues would move in to attack the moment you stopped looking at them.

The webster The Chive does shirts that say Keep Calm and Chive On. They are very popular with the young ladies now.
