Behind the Mic

If you haven't read David Jackson's latest behind the mic, its worth checking out. He brings up some really good points about this season and his view of the future of the football team.

The post really got me thinking about this year and different opinions being thrown around. I know we all believe we have an idea of who should start, or give this player a chance, or coach should do this. However, like many of you have said maybe the most important thing we as fans can do is fight through the season with the team. Probably my biggest fear moving forward is SEVERE loss of support for the program. Its been a long time since The Rock has not been sold out (aside from thanksgiving playoff games). Even though its bad this year, i'm hoping David Jackson is right, and things will look a whole lot better next year.

excuses and antic dotes really. It does not address the issues of the poor coaching and tackling that we are seeing. The lack of desire and therfore the attention to detail. Moreover, we see this team slide backward week after week. I want to see a fire lit under someone's arse. We are App State and we have come expect a quality program. I want to see someone as pissed off as I am about where this program is right now. There is no excuse. Does this not mean something?

I wouldn't worry too much about fan support. We are like every other school in that we have a core of die hards who will be there whatever, we have those, myself included, that make it as often as we can, and we have bandwagoners. Those that jumped on when we are winning, will jump off when we are winning, and will jump back on.

I've got to agree App 91. I'm about ready for some promising signs from the TEAM, not just a few individuals. I can go into the offseason excited if we at least create some late season momentum. Wins and losses are not even as important now (except for 11/23) as a return to playing App State football. It doesn't appear that we've started to turn anything around yet. Light the fire indeed.

It will be interesting to see if the Price dismissal has any effect, either positive or negative. All I know is this team needs a confidence and energy boost from somewhere. Hopefully they find it among the pine trees, fine cheeses and ugly purple of Travelers Rest.

If they're going to find that spark it needs to be done this weekend, they can take Furmin. However, they need to get down to work and focus now!!!

I'd say that finding Malichi more would be a nice twist. Tony Washington is a tough as they come. The Chancellor has not given up.

Our TE's are effective when we find them.

Cox has a chance to be special....but after him....for those not redshirting....we are in trouble.

I would love for JLJ to have a good game, even a good series....I feel for this kid...but we do not need to blow a red-shirt year on any other QB...so we better hope Kam stays healthy.

Defensively, really believe we are close to playing how Woody wants them to play.....but depth is an issue a LB.....Small is going to be a beast.

I think the communication on the sidelines/box between the coaches is getting better....

Real problems.....Samford out physicaled us. Team/player leadership. motivating 18-22 year olds when there is not much to "play" for. PRIDE would be nice
Go APPS!

Anybody knows more about the NT situation? I thought Burns was gonna be the starter going into the season, but then Bronson took over and now Small seems to have the nod. Are things likely to stay this way?

As much time as App's defense is spending on the field I would expect a constant rotation with those 2 as well as Small and Millhouse with Millhouse possibly also seeing some time at DE.

I agree that we are getting closer to playing defense the way Woody expects. For the first time all year, we actually attacked Samford, with blitzes, we brought linebackers, free safeties, corners, hell, on one play I watched the NT drop into coverage!! Woody actually was creative with the defense, something he would not have done just a couple of games ago. He is getting more comfortable with the personal. Now, being comfortable and satisfied are two different things, I think he is happy with the progress of certain indivionals, but as a unit he realizes there are a lot of shortcomings

I would like to see a field full of black and gold players with the intensity that Karl Anderson is bringing every down! That young man has the passion that gets me excited even if we don't get the W's.

Speaking for myself and probably alot of other hard core fans, I can stomach the growing pains and losses as long as our team is, as Ray Lewis puts it, "pissed off for greatness". We need to see some of that to help us forget about the "lets party" tweets right after losing  an important game. COME ON GUYS. I can hardly eat dinner after my youth basketball team loses and we got guys playing major college football for a football tradition - rich school that can just shrug it off as ho hum another loss, lets go turn it up. This has got to mean something for our team. :x

Most of us fans are "all in" but we just need to know that all those young men wearing the black and gold are sold out and hate the underachieveing as much as we in the stands do. We still have half the season to improve and do some amazing things. Can't wait to watch that improvement start in Greenville this weekend. Go App! Kick some Paladin butt!

I agree, I thought the "play calling" on both sides of the ball were much improved this past weekend. With that said, Summerlin played like a six-year senior.
