It’s hard to gauge how good or bad he was last year. He made the kick against A&M but missed the gimme (albeit at a horrible angle) against GSU. Our aggressiveness and ability to score TDs limited his opportunities, so I am sure that played a role in his inconsistency as well. It seemed like we didn’t attempt a field goal for months during the season. I know this is a blatantly obvious statement, but we just need more consistency across the board. I think he’ll deliver this season.

So one bad kick means he was bad all season and deserves to be benched... Got it!

He also made 4 other kicks against GSU.

When a kick is missed it's not always the kicker's fault...

Very true, but in the case of Georgia Southern, it appeared to all be on Hughes.

We ran to intentionally put the ball on his preferred hash (not all kickers like it down the middle). Snap was good. Hold looked good. Hughes just didn't make it.

Silver lining- WKU would have hung 60 on us again. Better to get into the off-season quick and get ahead of coaching hires along with hitting the portal/recruiting as we did.

Blown lead to JMU, piss poor embarrassing performance at Texas State. Bowl eligibility shouldn't have come down to the foot of a kicker in the last game of the season
