I agree, we have to lead the world in giving up KO tds. Sadly a JM team trademark.t4pizza wrote:Feels like the talking heads song..."same as it ever was, same as it ever was" How difficult is it to have a decent special teasm. Most other teams seem to be able to do it and its not like we dont have good athletes. Its just frustrating to watch the same thing year after year.
This game was very winnable. Stupid to kick a ball to a great returner, just like we did at JMU a few years ago, too many penalties, their defense is probably the best we face this year. Also had to play the home cooking.WataugaMan wrote:Just when we pull to within one, and Special Teams give up 6, that took the life out of the entire team.
Wasn't he the only returner back there?Black Saturday wrote:This game was very winnable. Still like were we are compared to last year.
I was watching and kept saying to the tv - punt the ball out of bounds. We never did it. There's no reason we shouldn't have just kicked the ball out the back of the endzone every time we kicked to them, unless our kicker doesn't have a big enough boot.Black Saturday wrote:This game was very winnable. How do you leave positive reputation points on this board?firemoose wrote:I was really hoping this would improve, especially since it was said during the camp reports that several times during the two-a-days that one whole session was dedicated to special teams. What we saw during the scrimmages followed through to today. It goes without saying that we've got much work to do. I've said it many times, just because you have great athletes on ST doesn't mean your teams are going to be great. Some of the best ST players are just average position players. It takes discipline, heart, and trust to be good on ST.
silver lining - exposed early and maybe serious changes can be implementedfiremoose wrote:I was really hoping this would improve, especially since it was said during the camp reports that several times during the two-a-days that one whole session was dedicated to special teams. come on - let's think positivelyApp91 wrote:or it could just continue to be the problem that it always has been,
Classic case of special teams play preventing a win.WataugaMan wrote:Agreed Black Saturday, Special Teams have been a continual problem year after year.
