Size and RBs

Unread post by goapps1 » Sat Nov 12, 2022 5:24 pm

Our defensive line with the exception of Earle looks like a bunch of linebackers. I know we like speed, but teams are blowing our front up. I hate the rotating running backs. We hear nothing concrete about injuries but it has to play into the insanity of our rotating RBs.

That's what our defense is built on. The the 3 down linemen are requiring 5 to block because of their speed, that leaves the LBs available to make plays.

We didn't really rotate RBs today. Cam had a fairly significant injury.

So is it that we just don't want to get to the QB?

According to the announcer today we have a vaunted pass rush. We lost Harrington (apparently) game 1. Cobb has been hurt most of the year. We have other 210lb linebackers trying to play but they get run over. We play soft on 3rd and long plays and give up yards after the catch due to horrible tackling "attempts ". I've never played a snap and I'll bet it hurts to tackle but the technique of throwing a shoulder into a guy doesn't work very well.

No. We need to blitz to get to the QB. Problem this year is if we blitz our DBs are not good enough to cover. It's a damn if you do, damn if you don't with this team. If we bring pressure, our DBs are on an island. Of the 4 DBs on the field, I currently trust one to make the right play/read. And it's not the All American CB.

Talent is not the issue, look at what these guys did the first two games.

Great teams get better as the season goes and App State teams in November have dominated since we joined the FBS.

Even with all the mistakes we have had the talent to win every game this season.

This is turning into a Fancher type situation, we can’t win the close games and it comes down to situational play calling and execution.

Defense wins championships. Time to make some coaching changes at the end of the season. Also look at OLine and strength and conditioning.

Talent, or lack their of is most certainly an issue. We don’t have enough of it. Coaches don’t coach poor angles and poor tackling. That is on players to execute. To we have players that give effort? Yes. Do we have players that have difficulty executing? Also yes. I realize that I am speaking into the void here but there are a great many little things wrong with this current team, personalities, coaching hires that aren’t working out, and injuries. All of those can be overcome with talent and depth, which we are short on both.

There are issues that are outside of any of the coaches and athletic administration’s control that are in play that also affect talent.

Bottom line, it is a talent issue.

So it was superior coaching that almost beat NC and did beat A&M overcoming a lack of talent, then they forgot how to prepare the team and out scheme our opponents.

We do need to improve size on the dline and coverage ability and tackling, but even with these deficiencies we had opportunities to win every game.

Just my opinion, it is some of both. Certain parts talent and certain parts coaching. Does that mean I think a complete overhaul of the coaching staff, no.

I agree. We are very talented in a lot of areas, but some position (trenches and DB need work).

But we should see development of players and schemes throughout the season and that has been very disappointing. Regression in season is unacceptable.

I don't have an answer for unc other than their defense was just not very good at the time, and our defense sure didn't stop them. We do have to stop using A&M though, because they just are not a very good team.

UNC defense has gotten slightly better. They just outscore people.

Maye is really good. I get ACC is down especially that side of division..but the numbers are impressive. Be interesting to see how he does against Clemson. Their defense is pretty good.

Agree, it is a combination of a lot of things but talent is a big one. Effort is going to keep you competitive and maybe win you some games. Execution is going to win you games but it requires talent.

Maybe we should start caring about stars and recruiting rankings lol. This ain’t small ball socon or old sun belt anymore. Other teams are way ahead in terms of size and speed now. Especially if we aren’t going to develop those “underdog” kids.

No AAs on this team in 22.
