App players getting all-star game invites

Unread post by AppStFan1 » Thu Oct 27, 2022 10:46 pm

RB Cam Peoples and LB Nick Hampton are expected to get Senior Bowl in the next couple weeks or so. They are expected to get Shrine invites as well but would decline the Shrine since the Senior Bowl is top game.

No Steven Jones Jr? Hopefully he can play his way towards an invite the back half of the year. He's been so close on a few ints.

Either/or would be great for the guys, but I lean toward indirectly helping the children at one of the Shriners' hospitals. When the players get to meet the children, parents and staffs in those hospitals they are forever misty eyed. I promise you.

Just my preference. Not meant to apply to every player/fan.

The buzz I'm hearing is that he and Hodges both should end up in the Shrine or NFLPA.

Their hospital does great work but instead of indirectly helping the Shriners' hospitals I would suggest giving them money to directly help. You could also help St. Jude as well. They do awesome work, too.

The Senior Bowl is the best game and the players have to go there over the Shrine. I think Jones and Hodges get Shrine or NFLPA invites but if the Senior Bowl comes calling they will go there as well.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/i ... -nfl-draft

Nick Hampton, OLB, Appalachian State
Scouts Inc. ranking: 109
Year: Junior
Measurables: 6-3, 235 pounds

2022 stats: 7 sacks, 9.5 tackles for loss, 3 forced fumbles, 5 quarterback hurries, 30 total tackles, 1 fumble recovery

Hampton is an undeniably skilled pass-rusher and his production hasn't dropped off despite the increased attention he sees this season. In 2021, he recorded 11 sacks -- an Appalachian State record during the program's time in the FBS -- to go with 17.5 tackles for loss and 69 total stops. He finished with five sacks in the final three games.

His ability to maintain production this fall -- Hampton recorded 2.5 sacks in the season opener against North Carolina and also has had multiple sacks against James Madison and Georgia State -- underscores the evolution of his game.

"He's getting doubled and chipped every opportunity," Appalachian State outside linebackers coach Mark DeBastiani told ESPN. "It's forced him to be a much better pass-rusher. He's able to convert from a run situation into a pass-rusher, which is where the majority of his sacks and hurries have come from."

Hampton had been undersized for his position and added 13 or 14 pounds this offseason, according to DeBastiani. His weight would occasionally dip below 220 last fall, and the NFL feedback was that he needed to play above 230 pounds. Hampton reported to camp at 236 pounds and has maintained his weight without losing explosiveness.

"His ability to go from power to speed with his length makes him pretty special, because they can't just sit on a speed move," DeBastiani said. "A lot of guys who are that twitched up have some stiffness and can't bend their hips as much. That's the attribute he has that very few people have."

An NFL scout noted Hampton has been very productive and likely will run well at the combine, but said "weight's an issue" even though it doesn't hold him back in the Sun Belt. Hampton ultimately must show he can carry the extra weight and thrive as a bigger player.

"Production always gets you drafted when you can get sacks," a scout said. "He's going to get drafted, if I had to guess right now, third or fourth [round]."

Already do and hope more of us do.. I have a monthly draft for 20 or so to St Judes. Got tired of being depressed seeing those ads for St Jude. Best money I spend each month. As to Shriners, I used to give what I could afford for tickets for the N vs S high school game tickets. Even went to one when Jimmy Bubba Lisk played in the '60's.Action in games is not too great but knowing where the $ is going is an emotional high.

I have said third round on here before so good to see it matches. Being quick off the snap, able to bend, dip, and having good closing speed will get Hampton drafted. I will be curious to see if he runs in the 4.5s at the NFL Combine.

I think they are way too high on the TCU CB though. He is 5'7 5/8 so he is tiny. He is a good athlete but he gets a lot of PI calls because he pulls and grabs. I think a lot of scouts will have him as a 6-7 or PFA.

100% agree with what was said about Gray at Oklahoma. They have him at 171 but I would not be surprised if he goes lower. He won't test well for sure. I'm hearing 6-7 or PFA.

I like the UCLA RB and feel like he could go higher than 123 range. I would expect 2nd or early 3rd round.

So we know Hampton and Peoples have Senior Bowl invites on the way, if they have not got them already. I can also report on here that Nick got a Shrine invite. Steven Jones has a Shrine invite. Cooper Hodges should end up with a Shrine or NFLPA invite but I have not been told that has happened or is in process, yet. I have some connections I am reaching out to that I think can get him in one. We will see if it happens.

I know that some other smaller games have, or will, invite all 4 of those names as well as Pearson and Brice are set to receive an invite from a game also. I don't know about anyone else but if they all accept then we should see at least 6 App State players in an all-star game this year.

So People’s is listed as redshirt junior and I know it’s highly unlikely he will come back for his Covid year, so I’m guessing juniors can receive invites to these games. If he plays in the all-star game does he forfeit his last year of eligibility?

He is a senior. App gave players the COVID year so in reality he is a redshirt senior under normal terms. App should have kept the players under normal class and then just listed as super senior if they return for the extra year, IMO.

It’s very confusing. He’s not a super senior, at least the way I understand it. He redshirted in 2018. So with the Covid year he has another year of eligibility. I never anticipated him to stay.

Yeah Cam, Hodges, and Hampton all could come back but they are likely to get drafted or at least make a roster so no reason to return.

We have a handful that will get a chance at the next level.Based on watching a lot of college football , I think one is much more likely to make it than the others.

I’m expecting 4 players to make the 53 or PS this year. Hampton, Peoples, Hodges, and Jones should do it and Brice might make a practice squad as well. With the expanded practice squads it is even more likely that players with great speed or other major physical tools will make at least a practice squad.
