BOWL ELIGIBILITY

Is it true that only one FCS win counts? If so, we must win 6 counting only ONE of Citadel and MORRIS?

I was about to say the same thing. Can't count 2 FCS wins. I give Gillin a pass on this year because of the new SBC members electing to join after schedules had been made but I hope we never do this again. I rather play 11 games than play 12 if 2 are FCS. Robert Morris basically does not count for anything towards the SBC, bowl eligibility, or get credit from voters for the polls. It only counts as a win for the program overall but the risk is too great. The gate we get is not worth risking injuries to players in a game that literally has no meaning for our season unless we lose it. We win and it does not count and if we lose we get embarrassed. Playing Robert Morris has no too much risk for the gate we get.
This is why I really don't like that game. We should beat them by 70-80 if we want to and there is risk of injury. I hope we get up 42-0 by early 2nd quarter so we can put in backups and just coast from there. I will take a 56-3 type of score.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 10:37 amAnd the FCS school has to sponsor scholarships at 90% of allowed scholarships to count as a win. So non-scholly FCS is basically playing a scrimmage.
I don't like it either, but it appears we didn't have much choice. I give them credit for agreeing to play us.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 12:13 pmThis is why I really don't like that game. We tried that with Marshall. Marshall didn't want to do it.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 1:45 pmRobert Morris plays in the Big South now and have been since 2020. The NEC was at 45 schollys out of 63. (71%) which is where Robert Morris was before moving to the Horizon in everything but football in 2020. I assume the Big South is at the full 63 schollys and Robert Morris should be at 57 at least by now but they may not be. I would think they could add 6 schollys a year to move to 90% in two years. But I am speculating here to be sure.
(Also the OTHER Robert Morris no longer exists as it merged with Roosevelt U in 2020.)
TL;DR I think this game would count if we had lost to The Citadel or The Citadel was canceled.
In my opinion we should have worked with the Sun Belt to make sure no SB school was looking at two FCS games this year and played another SB team as a non-conference game. UNC and Wake did this a few years ago. I am not against playing one FCS a year and will take two FCS games over an 11 game season but unless it was mathematically impossible to shuffle things around to do the above the SB should have helped with this more than they seemed to have helped.
Play them twice? We could have done total points over both games to count in the SB standings.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 2:00 pmWe tried that with Marshall. Agreed. I don't mind it because of our situation this year. I personally would have been fine if DG had just left it an open date but with a tough schedule you want a win to pad the stats and more importantly the big home gate.goapps93 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 12:25 pmI don't like it either, but it appears we didn't have much choice. We probably could. I honestly hope our starters play for a quarter and we get up 28-0 and then put the second string in and see them put up another 21 before we take them out. I expect to be able to play everyone against them. This month is not a gimme but we really should go 4-0 in October, even with our issues we saw in September. We have a month to figure them out and get some guys healthy. It looks like Harrington is done for season.
