OOC payoffs

Unread post by scatman77 » Sun May 05, 2013 9:03 pm

Now that we are officially FBS, how does this affect our take-home pay with Georgia this year and MIchigan next year? Won't it be a better paycheck?
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Michigan will be, but UGA probably won't since we're still gonna be FCS in 2013

If I recall corectly, we have already received around $200K from UGA due to ESPN having them reschedule our game to make the 2008 or 2009 chick-fil-a kickoff game schedules line-up... The whole domino effect. Regardless, that game being reacheduled is what opened the door for us to make our 2nd trip to LSU in 4 years.

In 2014 GSU is receiving $700k from NCSU, $700k from GT, and $500k from Navy.

They pushed LSU back to 2015 and will receive $850k from them.

They need the money badly, wonder also if the Sun Belt games will feel easy after three BCS games.

Yep, and we are supposed to believe that due to their move to FBS, it is 'impressive scheduling'. It's obvious they are just whoring themselves out for cash. If you want to impress anyone how about scheduling at least one of those at home? Or maybe a 2 for 1 deal with Navy?

We most likely will have almost the exact same schedule.

We already are going to be playing a most likely top 10 team in Michigan. We have 2 openings that will probably be filled with road games against FBS opponents. I imagine one will be against a BCS conference team.

Georgia southern will play 3 FBS teams other than the full FBS Sun Belt schedule. 2 of them are current BCS conference teams.

Navy is not a BCS team, and hopefully that nomenclature will go away after the playoffs starts in 2014

would love to get Wake Forest on the schedule, sooner, rather than later.

Let's assume we can't find the ideal situation which would be home and homes with FBS opponents, one home and one away for 2014.

Would you rather:

A. schedule another FCS program (Big South or OVC) and have 6 home games and pay another BCS opponent (ACC team)

B. Schedule two home and home with AAC/CUSA/MAC members playing both on the road in 2014, one return game in '15, one in '16

C. Schedule two more money games in 2014

I'd prefer B, thoughts?

ya, I prefer B. For me its about balance between the money games, and playing FBS schools that we can be competive. I dont like what GS is doing, I understand why, they need the money more than we do, but still, if they get their asses handed to them enough times, eventually, its really going to hurt attendence, fund raising, and might even have people start doubting the move up.

From what I read, we have 1 away game at Michigan and 1 home game vs Campbell. Those are definite. Then we have 8 Sun Belt games, 4 home and 4 away. So far 5 home and 5 away. According to GoAsu, with our two spots left, we plan on scheduling 1 FBS team away and 1 FBS team home. That will give us 6 home and 6 away. Certainly not impossible to do, I don't think the stars and planets would have to align for that to happen.

KiddBrewer:

I'm guessing Saint is subtly bracing us for more bad scheduling news. First it was Campbell. Now, if Saint's unappetizing scenarios are any indication, it appears our plan for a non-conference FBS game at home in 2014 is a washout.

As someone else said on here, Charlie, it's going to be difficult to get quality FBS teams to come to Boone early on.

My fingers are crossed for good things to happen. But, if we don't get a FBS team to come to Boone in '14, then so be it. It'll be an extra road game I can try to travel to.

App would be the FIRST transitional team to schedule a home FBS OOC game in year 1. ODU doesn't have one until their first full year in 2015 and they had a year head start, GA St. didn't do it, and even if you go back to WKU, Troy and MTSU they didn't either. This is just reality. IF we can get a home FBS game in 2014 Charlie will have worked some magic. Our latest press release likely set the bar too high based upon historical scheduling for transitional schools.

I would like to see two regional FBS games that our fans can travel to if we are only going to have 5 homes games. In a perfect world option B that Saint proposed would be best, but I would also like to propose D) 1 "Money" game and 1 local FBS game. This wouldn't be my first choice, but it may be a possibility. Two money games would be asking a bit too much for the team with so many new faces making up the 85 scholarships.

Wow. I didn't realize that. If Cobb pulls off an OOC FBS home game for 2014, it would not only shut up the folks still bitching about Campbell, but would set us apart from every other recent FBS transition. Especially if ECU comes here.

Fingers crossed, but I'm trying to temper my expectations to not be disappointed.

I think, eventually, we will be able to get midmajor teams such as ECU, Marshall, or Charlotte to make the trip to Boone, but I dont ever see any of the ACC teams making the trip of their own free will (it took an act of the state legaslative body to force both UNC and State to go to Greenville and play ECU). I look at Boise State, and for all their success, I believe they have had only one or two BCS schools, make the trip to Boise, if they want to play the big boys, they have to travel. What worries me is Boise is a top ten team almosst every year, and yet, the BCS conferences do not give them any respect, and force them to travel, Boise needs them, they dont need Boise, and they use that against them. Im not saying we will have the sucess that Boise has, but, by the grace of god it happens, we can still expect to travel to BCS schools, and not many will come to Boone.

ACC teams have visited MTSU and Troy, Big 12 teams have visited Sun Belt teams, SEC teams have visited Sun Belt teams. Ever is a long time.

Boise St. has hosted Oregon St. (twice), BYU, and Oregon in the last 8 years.
