When will stadium expansion start again?
I know that Georgia Southern is planning on expanding before official Sun Belt Conference play begins. Do we have the same intentions? Are we at least going to get rid of the track before we move to the SBC? With more TV games, that thing needs to go.

As far as I know, there isn't a date set at this point. It's definitely on the to-do list according to the Athletics Strategic Plan.

(Huge file, beware)
If I was a betting man, I'd say the track will be gone and additional seating will be added in between the 2013-14 seasons.

There was a break point in the fund raising at which time the University would start implementing the Capital plan...I remember the talk about the number but do not remember the number.
Go APPS!

Re: When will stadium expansion start again?
Saw today where the Campaign for Appalachian has raised $155M of the $200M goal. Of that, I believe $25M is dedicated to athletic facilities but I'm not sure when they can begin to spend those funds.
IMO, there are three facilities upgrades that should take priority:
1) Relocation of the track
2) Permanent seating in the North end zone
3) Expansion of the baseball stadium. I love the Beav but it is tiny.

There area also those plans to build a new soccer stadium. App State Athletics needs to prioritize, but I guess they can't really do that without stepping on a team's toes.

No site has been identified for a new track as of yet. That will have to happen first and the track would need to be in place before the end of Feb. to allow for the start of track season.Gonzo wrote:As far as I know, there isn't a date set at this point. *Comment Meant to Cause Anger*
*Not serious*
We shouldn't force the most successful sports (# conf champs indiv/team) to not have a facility but to the expansion for a current transitional sport.
End of rage baiting
If they could get the track up and running by Feb 2014, we could see temp stands and a covered track for 2014 and the start of the permanent stands in 2015.
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

They are in the process of building a new Field Hockey Stadium were the old soccer stadium.8993 wrote:There area also those plans to build a new soccer stadium. App State Athletics needs to prioritize, but I guess they can't really do that without stepping on a team's toes.
Building a new soccer stadium after all the money that App spent on the current complex would be a complete waste.

What percentage of the cost did ASU contribute?appgrouch wrote:They are in the process of building a new Field Hockey Stadium were the old soccer stadium.8993 wrote:There area also those plans to build a new soccer stadium. % I don't know off hand but they did contribute the Locker Rooms/Concession and gave enough to the field turf of the main field that there is a massive Block A in the center of it.hapapp wrote:What percentage of the cost did ASU contribute?appgrouch wrote:They are in the process of building a new Field Hockey Stadium were the old soccer stadium.8993 wrote:There area also those plans to build a new soccer stadium. Re: When will stadium expansion start again?
I wonder how much debt we have left to pay off from the previous facilities upgrades. If we knew that, it would allow us to more accurately predict when we can upgrade.
Re: When will stadium expansion start again?
If you guys want to see what our stadium would look like without the track, go take a look at the new renivations at Texas State. The" before" pictures shows a track, stadium looks horrible, second rate, cheap. Now, no track, seating added in its place, and the stadium looks incrediable, first class, doesnt even look like the same stadium 5 years ago. Makes me jealous, a program that has done absolutely nothing has a stadium that nice.

They did do something, they dumped the FCS. We should have done the same years ago.moehler wrote:Makes me jealous, a program that has done absolutely nothing has a stadium that nice.

I really don't think the track is going anywhere. Sure, they'll build another track somewhere else, but there are a few things that lead me to believe that we are planning to simply build on top of the existing one. For one, the architectural render showed us doing just that and if they wanted to take it out of the picture they would have. Also, the rumors of an underground stream/bedrock/ancient indian burial ground beneath the field seem to corroborate this.

They will be moving it though. It says so in the strategic plan.

Re: When will stadium expansion start again?
I do agree that it is highly unlikely that they do any digging to lower the field. I expect they will remove the track, put permanent seating in the North end zone and do some landscaping where the track currently is.Appftw wrote:I really don't think the track is going anywhere. This is a page from the pamphlet given out at last year's Yosef Club Spring Tour event (sorry for the crappy quality). Along with the widely distributed rendering, there is one in the middle that does not appear to have a track and is along the lines of what I'm expecting. Because they used an actual game day picture on the other rendering, I'd guess they kept the track in the photo to make it look more realistic and not have to draw over or around the teams on the sidelines.

I do not like the design in that picture.
If we are adding we need to do it right, it's starting to look like an erector set stadium.

Re: When will stadium expansion start again?
As long as the track is removed, I think it will be an improvement but I'd prefer they did not add a third level on the East side. Instead, it would be great to add those extra seats by connecting the North end zone seats to the East/West sides and have a horseshoe design.Saint3333 wrote:I do not like the design in that picture.

Re: When will stadium expansion start again?
I've also wondered about that third deck on the "State" side. The second deck that exists now already damn near hangs over stadium drive. Will they have to add spiral ramps to reach that level?asumike83 wrote:As long as the track is removed, I think it will be an improvement but I'd prefer they did not add a third level on the East side. The administration needs to be leaking every single render they come up with. THAT is how you hype up this FBS jump and garner Yosef Club donations. But as usual, crickets from the top of the Mountain.

Re: When will stadium expansion start again?
I don't see anything in there about demolishing the current track. Not to be a debbie downer, I just don't want you to get your hopes up. Plenty of FBS schools still have tracks around their stadium.Gonzo wrote:Appftw wrote:I really don't think the track is going anywhere.
