Holy Toledo!

Unread post by hotrod2001 » Tue Oct 05, 2021 9:34 am

Just announced that we have scheduled a home and home series with Toledo for September 20, 2025 in Boone and September 23, 2028 in Toledo.

That's how the scheduling is done though. The MAC isn't as sexy as a P5 series but Toledo is a decent program. I like this one.

Good add. Toledo is usually solid and should help SOS.

Excellent scheduling strategy to get both games televised on an ESPN platform channel.

I would have preferred the write up be like this.

One of the top programs from the Mid-American Conference, Toledo is a familiar opponent to App State. Two of the Mountaineers' six bowl wins have come against the Rockets – a 31-28 thriller in the 2016 Camellia Bowl and a 34-0 shutout beat down in the 2017 Dollar General Bowl.

This series does not move the needle for me. The MAC is terrible and I see no reason to play those teams. There are way more schools that I would rather have a home and home with than Toledo or any other MAC school.

I am good with this one. They have been middling G5 over the years, you can never predict where they will be in 5-7 years anyway. At least they are ok G5 and have had some decent years in last 10 yrs and would be, IMO, a very winnable opponent.

In 5-7 years there may not be an AAC, at least not as what it is perceived to be currently. When Cincinnati, UCF, and Houston leave, it will not be what it is currently...

It is a decent game that we don't have to worry about scrambling to fill due to them being in a conference with us. It'll be fine.

It's pretty great to be a mountaineer when we consider Toledo a weak schedule filler game for the future to boost the profile of our lower end of the schedule.

7 years ago we were other schools Toledo. How far we have come.......

You know current freshman being redshirted this season will be 5th year seniors when Toledo plays in Boone. It's not far away compared to a lot of scheduling contracts.
