Fall Camp start?
Which day this week does camp start? Do we know if we will be getting good daily analysis and routine updates? Last year was a wash, but it seems to me that coverage is not like it used to be several years ago.

Re: Fall Camp start?
No idea when it starts but with Ethan also being put on the Wake Forest beat this year, App will probably be put on the back burner for him. He’ll hit the high notes, but might not be on the day to day stuff as much. The guy who writes for 247 does a good job and if you can catch it on sale, it’s really not bad.

Re: Fall Camp start?
It starts on Wed. Tomorrow is media day. Last year was a wash. The year before was different than before due to Drink. Should be getting back to some normalcy with practice reports. I guess the value of the reports will depend on what one is expecting to get from them.

Never been in Boone during camp opening. Up here for vacation. Are any practices open? I assume not...but thought I would ask.

Practices are closed but you can park temporarily at the top of Miller hill and watch through the fence.Tbatchelor1977 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 4:27 pmNever been in Boone during camp opening. Up here for vacation. Are any practices open? I assume not...but thought I would ask.

Have seen zero news from Athletic Dept. Is Media Day going to be on FB live or any other outlet?

Don’t know if it’s enforced but just last week there were signs on that fence that indicated any viewing of practice was strictly prohibited.

Re: Fall Camp start?
ECU has a kickoff luncheon on 9/1 where the Chancellor and coaches will be there and fans can meet and greet, there’s a Meet The Pirates (sorta fan fest) event near the end of camp. Why doesn’t App do these type of events to create any sense of excitement around the program? Not enough demand in the past or are we just asleep at the wheel on these type of events? It’s the same thing with a spring game.

Re: Fall Camp start?
Spring Games have been viewed as a wasted practice in the past. You only get 15 practices. The Spring Game counts as one of those 15.

Re: Fall Camp start?
Pretty short sighted IMO. Bama manages to win Natty’s while burning one on a spring game every year. Bottom line is for how much this program wins, and how much the fan base talks itself up online, it frankly does not walk the walk in terms of support. In my eyes, a lot of blame falls at the feet of the athletic department and Yosef club. I’d love nothing more than an excuse to go to Boone for the weekend in a “Meet the Pirates” scenario. Or a Saturday in March where the whole town is buzzing because alumni have come up the mountain to begin the next football season campaign. Make it an event, get pigs cooking on Rivers street, get bands playing near the stadium, have raffles and giveaways. It’s like these folks think Instagram and Twitter posts is the key to unlocking the potential of the fan base. Nope. It’s engagement and experiences, which quite frankly App is piss poor at.

I agree 100%...maybe move spring practice to a little later so Spring game is in early April...maybe a little higher temperature. Also, gives some entertainment to the young students. In addition, if they get a more personal fan experience with the players and coaches..may entice them to join YC.Yosef10 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 10:41 amPretty short sighted IMO. Bama also gets their spring game on primetime ESPN and uses it as a recruiting tool -- we don't get that luxury.Yosef10 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 10:41 amPretty short sighted IMO. While I agree the athletic department and Yosef Club are subpar in their marketing efforts, its not from a lack of trying. Simply put, there isn't enough money. The employees we currently have get paid very little and work 60+ hours a week just to get the bare minimum done.
We really need to grow Yosef Club so we can have the staff needed the plan, organize, and run the type of events you mentioned above.

Re: Fall Camp start?
I understand your points. The premise of the early camps is that it gives the S&C coaches more time with the athletes to recover, repair, and rebuild leading up to fall camp. Moving camp back to a later date, compromises that. I don’t disagree with you, but it is difficult to do both.Tbatchelor1977 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 10:53 amI agree 100%...maybe move spring practice to a little later so Spring game is in early April...maybe a little higher temperature. Re: Fall Camp start?
There’s plenty of other schools who have spring games that aren’t on ESPN. ECU spring games for example are tons of fun. I used Bama because 94 tried to make it out as a competitive disadvantage to have one, which clearly ain’t the case.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 10:57 amBama also gets their spring game on primetime ESPN and uses it as a recruiting tool -- we don't get that luxury.Yosef10 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 10:41 amPretty short sighted IMO. Everyone knows we need more Yosef members. What i type of investment is the department putting in to achieve that? A new website? I’m still pretty tight with about 10 guys from App all in their late 20’s and a couple at 30 who all watch App. I’m the only Yosef member of the bunch, and believe me I’ve pleaded. It all comes back to “what do i get out of it”, which i can’t blame them. The Yosef gifts for different giving levels, quite honestly, are a joke. You can’t just depend on altruism to get Yosef members, there has to be enticement. And the thing is there a very cool things that could be done at hardly any expense. If it’s not a lack of trying, it’s certainly a lack of any imagination.

Never said that is was a competitive advantage. I gave the rationale as to why we do it the way we do. Stop twisting words to make yourself feel superior.

“The vast majority of our players are vaccinated. I’m not going to get into specific percentages. We have done what we can to educate the players.” Shawn Clark. That’s good enough for me. Debate over.
