31st...according to the coaches poll

The coaches are still showing us respect. 31st in coaches poll. CBSsports and Coaches still have us above many p5 teams.
We could easily make top 25 if we run the table. I think we will get a quality opponent in the bowl season.

With only 2 games left we're going to need some help to crawl into the top 25 I believe, but I do think we'll get a great opponent in the bowl this year. Fact of the matter is, with the power of the conference this year (I mean THREE Sunbelt teams have made it into the top 25 this year), a 9-2 regular season would be impressive, but I don't think the powers at be still give much credit to the Sunbelt, regardless of the objective power of it this year.
Editing to say that the Sunbelt West is still questionable at best sans La-La.

Win vs. #20 ULL, @ a rival, and a bowl victory puts us in the top 25. Especially if Marshall and CCU go unbeaten.

Marshall has Rice (1-2) at home and FIU (0-3) on the road. Should be no problem finishing undefeated. If CCU gets by Liberty they finish with Troy. Very possible they go undefeated also.

If we handily beat ULL and they beat CC, do we leap frog CC in top-25?

That's a worse case scenario for the Conference (not that we wouldn't love it).

if CC takes a L from Liberty, we beat ULL and ULL beats CC...2020 ends in a cluster. as it should.

Has anyone noticed that the 17th ranked team in the College Football Playoff Rankings didn't even make the top 25 in either the coaches or the AP poll?
How messed up is that?

I hate to hear the word "unfair" but the CFP is the most unfair system in America. The eye test is ridiculous. My eye test says we are better than Coastal Carolina. The scoreboard says we aren't.

BYU would beat UNC by 14 or more.

And those clowns from Chapel Hell would move up in the polls again. Just like they did this week after getting beat by 2 TDs at home. Such a joke.
GO APPS!!

Sadly, the playoff committee has turned into basically a rubber stamp of the best teams in the perceived best conference regardless of whether those teams actually win their conference. Football is supposed to be settled on the field but whenever anyone picks a team based on what they think is the "best" it naturally means there will be controversy. I really think winning on the field matters and a conference champ should never be passed over for another team in their own conference. The current method is about as messed up as letting the computers decide the BCS. The best formula in my opinion would be an 8 team playoff with the 5 P5 Champs getting auto bids, the highest rank G5 conference champ getting an auto bid and 2 at large bids. At least this way it gets more representation and awards conference champions. There are still too many teams getting votes based on their laundry alone (Iowa State with 2 losses including 1 to a SunBelt school at home is in the top 10), it needs to be based on real merit not perceived greatness. As it stands, Bama and Ohio State can almost always make it regardless of a conference title unless they lose 2 games. That just can't be said about other teams from other conferences and it is not a merit based decision.

with 3 losses...one loss to a 1-6 team. If we had a loss to a 1-6 team we would be in the bottom 25 of the 130 FBS teams. They are rewarded with a top 20.

While your scenario is more realistic, it sucks that the G5 has to be best in class. In the NCAA basketball tourney, every conference gets an invite. The Big South or the MEAC don't have to be one of the best mid-majors, they merely have to be a legitimate conference. And truly, in basketball the disparity between the Major conferences and the Mid-Majors is wider than in Football. Make it a true Playoff. Give the top teams a bye and let every conference have a berth. If you want to add a couple of at-large, so be it. if this were to happen, it would spread the talent around even more. Recruits would have a chance to make the playoffs at any D1 school. There would still be the haves and have nots. The Brands (Bama, Ohio State, Clemson) would still be there and probably still win it, but it would be a true representation of D1 Football.
