(Afternoon) Classes need to be canceled Thursday for GaSo

Ya'll, tailgating for one of the most important games of the year is gonna be ruined unless they cancel class that day. I feel like the rivalry is big enough to warrant this.

Counter Point: The game should be delayed until Saturday so that the full attention of the University can be put on it.

This type of decision should be made prior to releasing the academic calendar, not 4 days before kickoff. Obviously we all would prefer the game to be played on Saturday when the football gods intended college football to be played but until ESPN and the Sun Belt decide to move the game, the university, students, faculty and fans/alumni are just going to have to learn how to deal with it.

I'd agree with this counterpoint. I'll be a buzzkill and say App State is educational institution first.
Maryland cancelled afternoon classes last month for the Penn State game, but they announced that in July.

Everts is clueless. She was too busy attending the Nebraska game last weekend to plan ahead, so students (who already entered the tailgate lottery) found out today that their credentials were revoked and that student tailgating was prohibited for 10/31. At least give them notice if you're going to ruin their experience.
This is one of the many ways in which UNC BOG is an oppressive. They choose our chancellor, not us, so how could they know what values and skill sets are important to us?

I contacted the SGA office and they said that there would be an email out to students today or tomorrow with more information about student tailgating. This has been a continuous problem on Thursday night games for years. Everts needs to make an adjustment and realize that some things are bigger and should take precedent over academics for a 1/2 day once a year. Even Yosef club lots are opening late. She needs to make changes to this immediately.

Just got an email that there'll be no Yosef Club Hospitality Room for the event, since they can't reserve the dining hall on a weekday. I can't make the trip up myself, so this doesn't impact me personally, but is this the first time they're sharing this information?
(It actually said "Dinning Hall," but I'm not going to crucify anyone over a typo.)

With all due respect, and based upon my experience from 1979 to 1985 I’d say this is definitely NOT TRUE!!!!
Its a football institution first.
Cancel the dadgum classes!!!

I think students would have better luck petitioning to their own professors of the classes which interfere. Based on my experience of App, I'd venture to say a lot of them already have cancelled their class.

My professors canceled class for weekday games. Maybe we were just lucky?

Since the Black and Gold Convocation is being cancelled, maybe the students could petition to have App's annual Thursday night showdown take it's place so as to not cause additional missed classes.

It's also a matter of parking though, as lots will be on normal schedule that day.

I disagree that does not fix the problem. We need a campus wide shutdown. No one is going to classes anyway but if the school has classes they have to have parking for those that paid for it. That's why Everts needs to cancel all classes.

Classes aren’t going to be cancelled, the games not getting moved and it’s going to rain. But, we’re ranked, undefeated, and playing on national tv for the third time this year. How about we act like we have the football culture we say we have and show up to the game and support our team and stop all the crying about all the other BS!!!

Nobody isnt going to support the team, we'd just like to tailgate for longer than an hour or two

It's not about just supporting the team. And tailgating is football culture so we are actually showing we do care about maintaining our football culture more by complaining.

Don't think anyone is crying, we are discussing logistics because we are going to BE at the game regardless of the horrendous weather. I park in the rivers street parking deck, I know in the past when we had weekday games regardless of if the students have been told to move their cars or not, there hasn't been much enforcement, and when me and my tailgating buddies arrive, parking can be challenging.
