Halloween is coming - about the GS rivalry

So, someone on the internet a few years ago named our rivalry "Deeper than Hate," and nobody really likes it. Our rivalry has never really had an "official" name, but we feel like it DEFINITELY deserves one with its deep and storied history.

Some of the App/GS fans on the SunBelt board got together, and we came up with "The Black and Blue Brawl."

How do you all feel about this? I put a poll out on Twitter if yall wanna voice your opinion there as well:

Someone on Twitter also suggested "The Battle for the Paddle," as homage to both school's history as teaching schools.

Seriously though “Deeper than Hate” is WACK. I don’t have a better idea but I’m relieved such a terrible suggestion never gained steam.

“The Black and Blue Brawl” doesn’t make me cringe like the former. I’d give it a solid 6.5/10.

The Deeper Than Hate is along the lines of the Georgia and Georgia Tech Rivalry Clean, Old-Fashion hate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clean,_Old-Fashioned_Hate

This is correct, and is what throws a lot of people off imo. It looks like an imitation.

The UNCC “rivalry” has a name so I guess the GSU rivalry should have a name too.

What about something playing off the creeks: their drainage ditch and our Kraut Creek. I know....lame but at this point I'm trying to help. Pizza and Goalposts?

I suggested the "Pile of Stomped Pizzas" Trophy. Would never happen, but you know. lol

My little brother (also an App Alum) and I just refer to it as "Hate Week". After the game leading up to "Hate Week" concludes we begin rehashing all the beat downs, the good and the bad. We laugh, we cry, and we get angry. We spend the entirety of the week reaffirming that this is the one game that is a MUST WIN, this is always the sweetest victory and bitterest of defeats. I have been waiting for this game since we lost last year. We owe them, and their bill is coming due. I am so thankful that the coaches and players are able to focus one game at a time because I can not. When the schedule was released and I saw this game as a mid week Halloween game I immediately remember 08 and Wofford and have been dreaming of this retribution ever since. There are just so many similarities between the two games, down to the release of a new movie featuring The Joker(I imagine there will be plenty of Joker costumes in the stands this time too). Sorry for the diatribe what I am trying to saw is this game doesn't need a name to get me hype; just seeing their name on the other side of ours is enough to get my blood boiling. Let's take care of ULM this weekend then we can get fired up (I'm already fired up!).

Keep in mind that this less about how WE view our rivalry, and more about how it appears to the general college football populace. A rivalry game with a name might attract more people into watching it.

The name came from this well-written and amazing article. It wasn't an attempt to name the rivalry, but Georgia Southern printed t-shirts saying "Deeper Than Hate."

I hate to be critical since I don't have an alternative, but I don't like it. Seems forced. The naming of this rivalry is something that must happen organically. I watched the Catholics vs. Convicts 30 for 30 the other night so that's where my head is right now

T-Dog... For the last few years, I have searched the world over trying to find your past “Deeper Than Hate” contributions to The Cabin (you know... about the drunken challenge in the Savannah bar!), to no avail.... My kids used to almost die laughing as I read to them about the discovery of “the most god forsaken place on earth” (I think that’s how it went) during Hate Week! Is there any way I can get a copy? THAT was every bit as well written and amazing! 🤣😜😜
