CBS NY6

Unread post by The Rock » Fri Sep 27, 2019 11:42 am

CBS mentions us as a contender (although highly unlikely due to being in sunbelt) for a NY6 game. Pretty fair assessment overall, though I don’t think the sunbelt is as weak as they are making it seem.

by my count there are currently 5 remaining unbeaten G5 schools- App, SMU, UAB, Boise and Memphis.

The sunbelt already has 3 P5 victories this season, with at least 1 more victory (App vs. the Carolina) not outside of the realm of possibility. Not sure if other teams have more P5 games scheduled.

This shows there isn’t that much disparity between good/decent G5 schools and mediocre/decent P5 schools. The belt is (mostly) winning the winnable games and showing we belong on the same stage.
Would anyone in the belt beat the top 10-20 P5 schools? Probably not, but neither would most of the rest of the non-ranked P5 schools.
There aren’t many if any, easy games in the belt this year as I see it right now.

Side rant
Boise st is a great program and has been for a long time, but UCF’s big announcement that they will beef up their SOS by scheduling them isn’t that impressive to me. Those are 2 similar programs that should be on similar footing. Play Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, OH state, etc if you want to have statement wins and harder schedules, don’t brag about how tough you schedule is then schedule a game against a similar G5 school that you should be doing all along.

Seems like I've read that the UCF AD is only interested in playing strong P5 teams going forward if they are willing to do home & home games so they can get them in Orlando and it's been a challenge.

UCF is in great position to be taken by the ACC in the next conference expansion, football and basketball. Hope APP can do the same.

If basketball gets in order for a few seasons, that'll help.

One of the first things I learned on my first ship in the Navy "Perception is Reality". Facts don't always matter and perception of situations can carry more weight.

I say we try and schedule UCF for a home-and-home!

Keep the attitude of "we will play anyone, anytime, anywhere....."

That’s a bold take. A small part of me likes the idea to try and make the big boys view perceived lesser programs as equals, but on the other hand, that respect has to be earned. Beat a few of them and maybe you can get home and homes. Seems like beating a high ranked P5 at home would get more publicity than refusing to play them at all

Yep, and remember this is the guy that proclaimed them as national champions last year.
