Spier was interviewed

Unread post by NewApp » Thu Dec 06, 2018 9:13 pm

At this time, sources tell FootballScoop, NC State offensive line coach Dwayne Ledford is a legit candidate for the job. Western Carolina head coach Mark Speir has interviewed, as has interim head coach Mark Ivey. Each of these three have significant coaching experience at App and Ivey played in Boone as well.

A later post has recanted the above.

Hope that interview was just a courtesy interview for the dad of one of our players and former assistant… Don’t think I’d want to guy that just went 1-7 in a very weak Southern conference.

If it's someone from the "tree", I'm digging Ledford.

But wouldn't we want someone who has already proven they can build and run a program? A Mike Houston-type who has shown the ability to recruit and win? It's ok to look at candidates with App State connections but I wouldn't close the door on others. To suggest that only someone familiar with the ASU program is capable of winning in Boone is a little far fetched.
