Coaches, like politicians, want to have deniability (if that is a word). Some schools/boosters/admins get mad if a coach talks to someone else, particularly in -season. It's a two edged sword. If an admin is going to fire a coach they better have a strong candidate already on board and the only way to know that is to talk to them, and most of the time the coach is working for someone else, though not the case with Mack Brown. The coach is put in a predicament. So it is done "behind the curtains."
