ODU and Troy take down traditional power schools. Army and App down to the wire. Probably more than I can think of. How many P5’s are only by association? The divide is indeed narrowing

Playoff time

It's sad that TV controls everything. The degree of seperation has indeed gotten smaller and probably would be even smaller or non existent of TV had nothing to do with it. Big schools get all of the attention and coverage, but I would guarantee a lot of these recruits would go to an App, Troy, Ucf etc if they were guaranteed playing time and had the same opportunities to be "noticed" as the P5s. We just need to keep doing our thing and root on our fellow G5s to put kinks in the system. Let the rest work itself out. I would love a bracket type playoff and let the play on the field determine the entitled.

Aside from the perennial top 5 or 6 teams, there is really not a lot of separation.

As I Penn State fan, I always thought that 8 was the best number of teams for a playoff. An undefeated G5 school with a win over a P5 opponent should get a shot. I’m just not sure that is possible with only 4 spots.

The top 20 G5s can compete but thereabouts I see a substantial drop off. ODU not withstanding.

The hierarchy is this.

Top tier P5 > (mid tier P5 = top tier G5) > bottom tier P5 > mid tier G5 > bottom tier G5

That doesn't mean upsets don't happen. That good teams don't play down and bad trams don't play up (ala VT and ODU).

There are only a few in the top tier of each classification. Maybe 5-10 of each at most.
