Jersey Numbers
I see a bunch of guys moving around on their jersey numbers. Clifton Duck from 22 to 4, Darrynton Evans from 19 to 3, and plenty of others. The big number to me is the #14 going to Malik Williams. As we've discussed ad nauseum, that's a hefty number to live up to.

Re: Jersey Numbers
Man, a little disappointed to hear that. Nothing against Williams - excited to have him on board. But I really hoped 14 would either be retired or used as an honorary jersey for a proven veteran.

Re: Jersey Numbers
I like having 14 on the field. Players who wear the number will know how impactful the players who wore the number were and know that they have a lot to live to. Some may feel extra pressure, but I think guys who are competitive will work harder to live up to legacy of the number. Then again it is just a number.

Re: Jersey Numbers
Armanti and Marcus definitely made positive impacts on our football program. They would have made the same impact in a plain t-shirt as they did with #14. At the end of the day for me, a jersey number is just that ... a number. I'm more concerned about the character of the player inside the jersey than I am about the number on the outside of his jersey.

Re: Jersey Numbers
My thoughts have nothing to do with what number the current players wear, and everything to do with honoring our all-time greats. The fact that App has done nothing to honor Armanti's jersey grows more puzzling every year.

Re: Jersey Numbers
Compared to other schools, there is a huge disconnect between App State and former athletes. This coming from the mouth of many former players I know.EastHallApp wrote:My thoughts have nothing to do with what number the current players wear, and everything to do with honoring our all-time greats. Re: Jersey Numbers
Have you heard this recently? I know that during the Cobb years (at least toward the end) I heard this comment. Some of the athletes felt alienated and many were very upset by the poor handling of the Coach Moore situation. I thought that a lot of progress had been made in recent years. The few former players I know seem to feel good about the program./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:Compared to other schools, there is a huge disconnect between App State and former athletes. Dexter was ignored for a long time. It seems that was rectified 3-4 years ago.Yosef84 wrote:Have you heard this recently? Not sure if you mean in terms of his jersey being retired or just generally. According to this his jersey was retired in 2005: http://appstatesports.com/news/2011/5/2 ... h=footballbcoach wrote:Dexter was ignored for a long time.
