New variable in realignment

Some conferences may not have a choice with regards to realignment. An outside force may drive realignment sooner, rather than later. I'm a proponent of less missed class time but not so much in an actual "bus league". The airlines may push widespread conferences into regional bus leagues whether programs and fans want it or not.

New fundraiser...$50M for a used airplane.
It would look sharp with a Block A on the tail and FLY YOSEF written on the fuselage! We could register the tail number N3432H with the FAA.

I believe a "bus league" in regards to GA, SC, NC, VA, WV, and MD schools wouldn't be so bad. It would be the Gulf State schools that are primarily affected in an adverse way by this.
An FBS style bus league (though flying would be the preference) could be achieved in a conference consisting of App, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Coastal, WKU, ODU, Marshall, Charlotte, and Troy, for example.
I would favor remaining in conference with Troy, Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, and Coastal with additions of WKU, MTSU, Marshall, and Charlotte. Arkansas State is the geographic outlier here however from a competition standpoint, I believe this would be ideal.

Here is another hypothetical question. How much monetary offset/advantage does a conference full of strong completion pose vs one just built for least travel cost? At some point a very regional conference without national level competitive strength will cost more than one stocked full of the best G5 teams. The stronger conference will be able to earn more revenue from CFP, tv, etc than a weak one.

I would need to update some credentials, but I could help maintain it!

Since football drives the bus (pun intended), I can't help but wonder if the powers that be will look at the possibility of P5 football only conferences, combined with more regional friendly conferences for other sports. I don't see it happening, but it sure would bring up interesting possibilities.

I think if the Sun Belt and CUSA realigned geographically then App would be in both a strong conference as well as having less travel cost.
App
UNCC
Marshall
ODU
WKU
Coastal
GS
GSU
Troy
MTSU
(Add Arkansas State and I bet JMU would make the jump or see if we could snag Southern Miss)
With App, Marshall, ODU, WKU, GS, and Troy all in one conference it would be very competitive and then adding two of either Ark State, JMU, or Southern Miss would make for a very interesting conference. I think UNCC, Coastal, and GSU all have the potential of being strong eventually. And I honestly don't know much about MTSU but they kinda fit in the footprint and would help extend the footprint into Arkansas or Mississippi.

N is the FAA required prefix...34-32 you probably recognize from a game in 2007...the final letter can be any letter, but the tail number must end in a letter.
Sorry, I'm a little bit of an aviation nerd.

Makes sense now. N3432M for Mountaineers or N4342A for Appalachian, or are these already used? I imagine somewhere on the Internets there is a database of all the tail numbers.

Just checked the FAA site and 3432A & M are both taken.
This may be a situation where we've got the cart in front of the horse.

Please don't openly advocate for a league that requires our teams to bus to WKU and similar distances. Our teams would always be at a substantial disadvantage on such trips. I've had that experience as a much younger guy. It's an appsolute killer. In the big picture, it would detract from the overall strength of the league and would be a significant disadvantage in recruiting.
I understand it may someday become a necessity due to budgetary considerations, but we'll rue the day!

If I win the really big Power Ball lottery (which requires me to play the lottery which I don't) I would like to be able to promise I would buy a plane for App State, but I'll be honest I think I would spend some money purchasing a train instead and build some tracks to Boone again. Maybe Boone to Hickory or Boone to Wilkesboro.
Other questions:
Would there be room to place an airport in Boone to fly out of, or would a plane be stationed at Hickory?
I say we not worry about the horse/cart but start getting all the logistics worked out now so we have a plan in place when the money comes forward.

Highest donor gets to pick what color Block A they'd like.

Interested to know why you feel taking a bus to a game puts us at more of a disadvantage? Just curious. I can agree with the recruiting aspect. High school kids want that experience of flying to various places.

If I don't win, hope you do!
You can find some used 737's for less than $10m. There seems to be quite a few for less than $5m. Set aside another $15-$20m in an endowment to cover annual maintenance and crew. You're out less than half of what you originally thought.

Butt in the seat time from my point, those seats are not big nor comfortable.

Save your money! I have played 3 times already and have not won yet. I think it's a scam.

Although this isn't about the G5's like the article that started this thread and the post I put up about Liberty making a bold move to jump to FBS as an Indy and spending money for facilities, I thought this would be a good addition to this thread, as it shows that even schools that are already P5 (although not too successful at the moment), are spending big money to be ready for the next moves, when they begin. Hear this type of talk every week.
