SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sam Martin, Appalachian State, Sr., P/PK, Fayetteville, Ga.
Sam Martin was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goal attempts and averaged 50.5 yards on four punts as Appalachian State topped Furman 33-28 to earn a share of the Southern Conference championship Saturday. Martin connected on field goals of 27, 47, 19 and 32 yards. His final two field goals accounted for the final six points of the game as the Mountaineers trailed 28-27 midway through the third quarter. With Appalachian State holding a five-point lead with just 1:57 to play, Martin booted a 62-yard punt that was downed at the Furman 1-yard line.

What are the chances of him going pro?

He has a leg for long punts and the touch to put them inside the 10. And his FG is not stellar but he was 4-4 on Saturday.

Article on him last week said he was getting attention from scouts. But pretty sure would only be for punter and KO duties.

Punts and Kick Offs are his ticket to the NFL. But the KO is what is getting the scouts drooling. With the NFL kicking off from the 35 the more touchbacks one can get the better. And Sam has that ability. Add to that his punting, which can save a roster spot for many teams and he will be playing on Sunday next year.

I hope the Panthers draft him and release that garbage punter they currently have.

This award was a no-brainer! That last punt was a game-winner.
