Official Vermin prediction thread

Unread post by bigCasu » Wed Nov 07, 2012 5:01 pm

It is amazing how quickly circumstances can change in a week. Last weekend, in a matter of about an hour, Appalachian’s season changed dramatically. The Mountaineers knocked off a top ranked team for the first time in program history with a 31-28 win over hated rival Georgia Southern. Later that afternoon, Wofford fell in overtime on the road at Samford, which has now set up the most unique final weekend of conference play between top teams in conference history. Georgia Southern went from controlling its destiny to sitting back and watching it all unfold. The Eagles will share the trophy with someone, but they are not sure who that is. A win gives Appalachian a share of the trophy, but with a Wofford loss to Chattanooga, Appalachian would be declared the conference champion and would receive the automatic bid. A Wofford win and Appalachian would ensure a three way tie for the championship and the automatic bid would be determined once the final standings shake out. Raise your hands if you would have thought this Appalachian team would be in this situation after The Citadel game? After Wofford? Exactly. This conference race is easily the most intense in the history of the conference. Regardless, Appalachian has a chance to accomplish one of its goals it set forth at the beginning of the season, and they will have the opportunity in the comfy confines of Kidd Brewer Stadium on Black Saturday against the only team in the conference it has a losing record against. Can the Mountaineers finally break the 2012 curse that is the state of South Carolina?

Hopefully The Apps have learned their lesson after the Montana game and will not think they just have to show up to win. If not, it could be a long day. However, I believe they have learned:

Jerry has preached to his teams for years the first major goal of winning the SoCon Championships. The players last year remembered how much it hurt not to win it,, specifically to lose at Furman after beating #1 GSU. Our senior leaders will not let this team lose focus. Despite how banged up they are, this team knows they have one more game left before they can rest. We will finally find out the true character of this team on Saturday and I feel like it'll be good.

That's a great write up BigC. One game at a time. Get it done.

I believe we will come to play after what happened last year and has happened to us after big wins this year. This young team is learning and the playing time has helped many of these young guys gain valuable experence. I picked against us last week and I am still polishing off my case of crow and loving every bite of it. If Furple puts an extra DB or LB back to stop our passing attack then it's Miller time. This week will be no cakewalk but I feel that the coaches have had plenty of blackboard material to work with. We will be ready to send the seniors out with a RING.

With a week to prepare for us I think Furman will put up some points. However, I think the Apps have started to hit their stride and will score more.

did not realize Furman's defense is that bad, should score early and often, only thing that worries me is we have played 10 straight weeks without a break, Moore said the team is really tired, might be a factor. App 38 Furman 24

After 10 straight weeks, you have to believe these guys are wore out. Maybe SS ought to think about implementing the Chip Kelly strategy to help rest the defense more.
