Camellia Bowl: We just need to OWN IT!
Yes, it's 2 years in a row...we need to embrace that for what it is because we can all remember back to the Chattanooga 3 year run and how we owned that town. Take a glance at all the whining and excuses over at Arkansas State board and sunbelt board, as if it's all about the fans and their reasons they can't go to their bowl game blah blah blah...
Very different attitude in our world, we expect to show up and support our team, because in the end it's about the game! We are building our new FBS legacy one block at a time.
Toledo is a very respectable opponent and this would be an impressive win IMO if we were to take it.

Here's hoping we pack it... and make it the upgraded version of the old KBS West in the "Dirty"...

Gotta say, right now, it feels like a letdown to me. Not an exciting venue and Todedo dosent move my needle in the least, but really, none of the MAC teams do. Oh, I'll get on board and go and cheer the team but more out of a sense of duty than pure excitement. Would have much preferred Cure Bowl for various reasons.

I'm excited for a return trip to Montgomery! How many teams would love to have a conference championship and two bowl appearances in their first two years of eligibility?
Let's own Montgomery ... again! See y'all down south.

I agree 100%. Hopefully Toledo will bring more fans than Ohio.APPRIDE wrote:Yes, it's 2 years in a row...we need to embrace that for what it is because we can all remember back to the Chattanooga 3 year run and how we owned that town. That's why I am saying we just need to own it at this point, instead of what we all "envision" as the best scenario, it now is what it is and let's embrace that. It's a chance to travel large again and since Toledo will be a tough opponent, there's that...a real football game...AppinATL wrote:Gotta say, right now, it feels like a letdown to me. Yeah, yeah, I get all that. And Toledo is a quality opponent. But just not excited about it right now. I will get myself worked up for it in due time.

Orlando could care less about the Cure Bowl with the Russell Athletic Bowl just a few days later. This Toledo team is VERY good and we better be prepared to play or this could get out of hand. Let's pack the Cramton and paint Montgomery Black & Gold!!!

Definitely going to the bowl game this year. I was kinda depressed watching it on TV last year and wished that we had gone. Will probably stop by the Falcons game on the way home on Sunday. Does anyone have a recommended hotel in Montgomery?

We stayed at the Renaissance downtown last year on points. It's going for $299 this year. This was the team hotel and all the App Alumni activities were across the street so it was extremely easy. I think there is an Embassy Suites right there too. The Pep Rally was also a block from the hotel. I've seen multiple hotels online with rates <$100.87ASUgrad wrote:Definitely going to the bowl game this year. I was kinda depressed watching it on TV last year and wished that we had gone. Booked a room a Hilton Garden Inn about 4 miles from stadium for $111/night. Last year stayed a little farther out at Hampton Inn in Prattville (approx. 10 miles out) and it was pretty solid.

Stayed at Montgomery Inn & Suites last year, and was happy with it. Nothing fancy, but clean, comfortable, and an easy drive downtown if you can't find something closer.

We stayed at a Courtyard in Prattville using points. Good place to stay, not a bad ride back to the stadium, and for golfers it's next door to one of the stops on the Trent Jones golf trail.

Stayed at the Hampton Inn ^ Suites-Downtown last year but they had no vacancy for this year. Booked rooms at Double Tree Inn-Downtown for $111/night.

Re: Camellia Bowl: We just need to OWN IT!
Thanks! We were wanting to stay downtown, but couldn't find anything in our price range last night and wanted to go ahead and lock our lodging in. We used points and booked at a Sleep Inn & Suites in Montgomery just off of I-85 that looks pretty close. Now my family is trying to figure how to calm me down until we get there. Just like a kid before Christmas. I am heading up to Boone today and get us some more magnets and new wind socks for the trip. Looks to be a great road trip. We got Atlanta Falcons Vs. 49ers tickets also for the trip home. It should be easy to get there in time from Montgomery since they have the 4:00 game. Looking forward to seeing Ronald Blair & Daniel Kilgore and hope they have a good game. Go Mountaineers!!Boone Goon wrote:We stayed at the Renaissance downtown last year on points. Re: Camellia Bowl: We just need to OWN IT!
Bowl games are meant as a reward to the team for a season well played, to the Fans to enjoy the destination, and for the hosting City to showcase their town. Last year was exciting cause it was our first bowl game ever, and Montgomery did a great job. This year we improved and won a share of the conference, what's the reward? Going back to Montgomery, don't get me wrong I'll be there, I think we just wanted some different scenery to party in. Toledo is a great opponent, but how much name recognition does Toledo have, will it help in our recruiting? Like I said I'm not sour, but this is our super bowl, due to the fact that G5 schools will never make the playoffs until some expansion occurs. Montgomery is an easy drive, I hope all of APP Nation attends. My heart tells me there may be less fans there this year due to the same venue, last year was historic, this year has a better opponent but will it be enough to draw the crowds?

Re: Camellia Bowl: We just need to OWN IT!
We went to Montgomery last year for the game and had a great experience. Going AGAIN this year. The town rolled out the red carpet for the game. Seemed like the town was already an App fan before the game even started. Hotel was right in the center of the action. Went to the pep rally on Friday evening, then to the Christmas parade to watch the App Band of Distinction strut their stuff. Comments around us from parade watchers were "our" band nailed it. One of few entries that actually played Christmas music in a Christmas parade. IMAGINE THAT! Right across the street from the hotel was a bar owned by an App Alumni. The place was electric with black and gold Friday and Saturday night of course. Restaurants in the area were amazing. We are going for the team and to watch our Mountaineers take down the Rockets. We'll chose a "vacation spot" in the spring. For what some people on this board seem to be thinking are lemons, let's make Lemonade and sell our brand. Make it our OWN! Go App!

This is my favorite thread of 2016. The athletic department, donors and fans literally have no control over this scenario.
But we CAN control our attitude of the situation and OWN it.
Fantastic call-to-action, APPRIDE!
See you in Montgomery!

DAMN RITE! Thanks APPARJ!
I feel like we as fans haven’t earned it yet… it takes time, one step at a time, to get “better” bowl games, to get where we can piss and moan about what we “deserve”. Someone asked “what’s our / our players reward for winning a conference championship? Well my answer to that is…
A CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP!
We as fans have a job to do, for once something is in our control, like APPARJ says. Let’s not be like these other apathetic fan bases. We need to set the tone for being an App Army at these games, let’s get our swagger back, like we had in the 3peat years…that’s what we all REALLY want! We start w/ supporting this game, this team and it will snow ball from here. We want all those that stay at home to think “wished I had gone to Montgomery”! Sure it’s about the partying…but it’s about the game 1st and priority one here is to win this game against this quality opponent and as fans, show up for our school…if we show up LOUD, PROUD & BIG CROWD, App State will make other bowls and schools respect our brand.
