Satterfield to Cincinnati?
According to the "sources" at Bearcat Report, which is associated with Rivals and Yahoo! Sports, Scott Satterfield is one of Cincinnati's top 3 Candidates, along with Neal Brown at Troy. I know right now we need to be focused on beating Toledo, but this may be something to start keeping an eye on. Would be a very nice job for Scott to get, Cincinnati springboarded Bryan Kelly to ND and Butch Jones to Tennessee. Also, the AAC as a whole has had coaches get plucked by Oregon and Texas this year. Would be a huge pay raise to. Just something we should keep an eye on.

Re: Satterfield to Cincinnati?
I don't think (I hope) Satt wouldn't leave App for another G5 school. I understand that playing/coaching in the AAC is a little more prestigious than the Sun Belt but I think Satt cares about App too much to take a step that small (yes I do understand that the pay is probably a bigger draw than the conference). I could understand leaving for a P5 gig but not another G5. However, if Cincy does come knocking and Satt takes the job then I'll wish him nothing but the best and thank him for giving his all for Appalachian State.

This is what it's kind of sounding like to me, too. Hope he'll take it if offered, sounds like things are heating up there.TheMackAttack wrote:I feel like the Cincinnati job is Luke Fickell's if he wants it.

Yeah, this is a tough one. Scott's name pops up on every search. Id be pretty disappointed if he leaves for another G5 and i would hope he is not intervening now before his alums season is over. I guess this might be something we will need to get use too. Just a stepping stone...

Re: Satterfield to Cincinnati?
I just read an article that named 3 other coaches in the top 3. The last paragraph of the article mentioned that "other names" are brown from Troy, SS, and other had been linked to the job by another publication. It was certainly not insinuating that he was in the top 3. Not saying it is not a possibility, but this is how rumors start and spread like wildfire.
Top 3 reported:
PJ fleck
Charlie Strong
Jeff Brohm (has since taken Purdue job)
Here is the article:

And here is an even more recent article (4hrs ago):

If South Carolina, Virginia, and Virginia Tech had opened up this year, I'd be concerned. If he's interviewing at Cincinnati, I'm assuming it's just to leverage a raise or a better pool for his staff.

If they pay him what they were paying Tuberville, it would triple his salary.CheckYosef94 wrote:I don't think (I hope) Satt wouldn't leave App for another G5 school. Re: Satterfield to Cincinnati?
Lost a lot of assistant coaches after the three peat, Satt being one of them. Historical relatable evidence that success brings coaching changes. I like Satt and would hate to see him leave, but if he left I would not speak of him any differently. Great guy who the players love. Don't think he will go to Cincy, but feel a future change he will take is inevitable.

Re: Satterfield to Cincinnati?
Would not begrudge him one bit if he took a better gig. Unless a place like Cincinnati is just a temporary stepping stone it isn't that great IMO. It's amazing how much considerably lesser performing coaches make. Scott is a great guy, a great App guy but if I were him I would have a really hard time looking at my check knowing what some of the other guys are getting- some getting double or more for perennially going .500.

Re: Satterfield to Cincinnati?
From the Winston Salem Journal Article about Moore winning SB Offensive Player of the year; "Head coach Scott Satterfield wasn’t in Boone on Wednesday, but his staff used a pre-practice slideshow to reveal the team’s all-conference recipients. The final slide informed Moore of his honor." I read that right after I read Sat might be considered for the Cincinnati job. Where was he, interviewing? Where else would he have been on a Wednesday????
No one could blame him for pursing that job; I think it would pay over $2 million per year and it's a much higher profile job.

I hate the feeling of being on death watch, but I guess that's the cost of success. Others have to deal with it too, but it's just worse when it's an alum.
Of course I wish Satt the best. Just hate the stepping stone reality.

Re: Satterfield to Cincinnati?
Went on Cincinnati's message board last night and searched all the threads pertaining to new coaches, over 35 pages and Coach Satt was mentioned MAYBE 4 times by a poster. They had a poll as to who they want their next coach to be, Coach Satt had ZERO votes so I'm hoping he'll be back in Black and Gold next year!

Re: Satterfield to Cincinnati?
I know the B12 decided not to expand but if I recall correctly Cincinnati was on the list of possibilities. I don't think he will leave right now but salary and potential is certainly higher than in Boone.

What is the absolute max that App can pay Satt? Would like a real world number. Just curious

Re: Satterfield to Cincinnati?
I feel Satt will be around until 2018, two more full seasons. By that time his kids should be getting close to being out of school and hopefully he'll have a few more conference championships, bowl wins and double digit seasons added to his resume. The guy has more than paid his dues and like others have mentioned I would wish him the very best as he will earn one helluva pay raise. I see him going to a mid-tier P5 team when he makes the move.

Re: Satterfield to Cincinnati?
If he leaves for Cincinnati he will triple his pay and triple his assistants pool pay. The American has also churned out 4 P5 hires the last 2 off seasons. Justin Fuente (VT), Herman (Texas), Rhule (Baylor), & Taggart (Oregon).
It's the price you pay for success at the G5 level. If he leaves he has put is an excellent position to be successful moving forward. There will be no shortage of qualified candidates for this job. That being said I hope he stays but Bearcat Report is a reputable source.

Re: Satterfield to Cincinnati?
The pay would be better, but outside of that it isn't much of a step up. Plus consider living in Cinncy instead of Boone. They'd have to pay me a ton to make that move!
I still think he will wait out for a better offer down the road at a P5. He has a good thing going and is living very comfortably now so not wait for a better job? He'll get paid big at some point so why not be selective?

He was in NY at the HOF Banquet.mikeyosef wrote:From the Winston Salem Journal Article about Moore winning SB Offensive Player of the year; "Head coach Scott Satterfield wasn’t in Boone on Wednesday, but his staff used a pre-practice slideshow to reveal the team’s all-conference recipients.
