Two penalties...
That stick out in my mind...Troy out to kick field goal on 4th down and we jump offsides...they score 7 two plays later. 3rd quarter, Troy horrible punt gives us the ball at their 39 with momentum clearly changing...personal foul by Collins which was imop a cheap shot...bonehead move and we are pushed back to app 45 and cannot convert on downs...we punt, they then score a t.d. And just like that the momentum shifted. Clock management, yes was a problem but those two penalties gave them 7 instead of 3 points and 7 more vs a possible field goal at the least with the great field position we were given. That's 11 points...think about that.

Re: Two penalties...
Collins has continued to do this every year. He is a good player and does not need to take these cheap shots to intimidate the opponent. Seems we can count on one each game.

Re: Two penalties...
Collins has developed a penchant for personal fouls for sure. Its like he watches back the games and hears the announcers talk about his mean streak and feels like he has to live up to it. Lambs lack of accuracy this year has been odd as well. At least 3 to 4 clear overthrown each an every game to open wideouts. The WRs aren't helping him out much with drop when he is on target. This game was all 3 of those deficiencies rolled into one.

Penalties and mistakes will get you beat 99% of the time, we knew it was just a matter of time. Still waiting for that complete game.

Re: Two penalties...
Those two penalties stick in everyone's mind who watched the game. The off sides call was frustrating but at least it doesn't represent a trend. Collins needs to get control of himself. That one IS a pattern and it killed us yesterday. It not only killed a drive but drained the momentum that we had at the time. There is no excuse for penalties after the play by a SENIOR.
I do think Collins was getting pushed around more than usual yesterday and I'm sure he was frustrated. It would have been easier to overlook if not for the issues in previous games.
Let's just settle down and win our last two conference games. We're way ahead of schedule but not doubt that yesterday was a missed opportunity.

Re: Two penalties...
While the offsides penalty hurt, and wound up costing us the margin of the game, it was an effort penalty. Those happen. Frustrating? Sure, but it came from someone who was trying to make a play.
Those type of penalties differ from stupid, cheap-shots that not only alter the landscape of the game, but ultimately put a mark on us as a program. Those have to stop, and stop yesterday.

Re: Two penalties...
I remember watching a Troy defensive player lose his helmet during an earlier set of downs..he had to leave for one play but before going off the field, he was visibly upset and had a discussion with the ref. Later on the ref called that personal foul against us I believe for hands to the face...I can't remember if that went on Collins but like some have said, that bad boy image can't get you points. Maybe he was getting some cheap shots as well but if he wants to play at the next level, that's going to happen and if he's known for losing his temper, other teams would come at him knowing it could be beneficial with the penalty assessments. I'm not beating him down folks...he's a great player. Just stating the obvious and hope to win out.

Collins is his own worst enemy. Seems like he gets a stupid penalty every other game. I like my lineman to be aggressive, but he crosses that line way too often.

Actually, I believe the incident you reference was an OL for Troy.PBR1893-BEER-HAT-GUY wrote:I remember watching a Troy defensive player lose his helmet during an earlier set of downs..he had to leave for one play but before going off the field, he was visibly upset and had a discussion with the ref. Re: Two penalties...
You're right...it was offensive lineman for Troy but it did draw a flag a few sets of downs later. So, I was wrong in that aspect. However, it does show that mistakes are made but can be tweaked. Again, I'm not a coach and don't know the inside of what goes on after penalties are called...but discipline wins games.

Re: Two penalties...
If you want to be honest this does not appear to be a big thing with the coaching staff as it has gone on now for years without being checked. I wish it were different but the proof is in the pudding, it has not stopped.

Re: Two penalties...
For whatever its worth, the helmet penalty was on Kenan Gilchrist. I do think there was some frustration in the first half. At the end of the day, when we had them at 4th and 6 on their last drive, with our best unit on the field, you cannot let the receivers get behind you... period and if you are going to have an interference penalty... make sure he can't catch the ball. It was a heck of a game. Need to focus on next weeks game.

Re: Two penalties...
I have a question for some of you.
Do you enjoy our wins? Because I'm convinced some of you would rather be right than win.
Do you take joy in noticing negatives in wins just to bring them up when they're magnified in a loss?
Are any of you the guy who sits in front of me at KBS who I've never seen celebrate a touchdown and berate Satterfield and his "playing card" when a run play goes for one yard?

Re: Two penalties...
People have noticed things that we do repeatedly and have said they are going to bite us one day against a good team. They happened against a good team and bit us on Saturday. It's quite a stretch to say that people who have been observant and made accurate points somehow enjoy our losses. I don't think that's the case at all. Your post reminds me of one of my favorite quotes of all time:T-Dog wrote:I have a question for some of you.

The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it.

Re: Two penalties...
no some of us are in positions where we constantly have to review performance to try to improve. i am not sure what the issue with the sunshine squad is, but it is all about pointing things out in areas of improvement. This is a message board where we do discuss performance. Everything is not always perfect and there is no reason what so ever to discuss. I certainly hope the coaches are watching film and finding ways to improve each day.T-Dog wrote:I have a question for some of you.

Re: Two penalties...
A misconduct/unsportsmanlike penalty is not a mistake. It is not off side,or pass interference. It is an action that you do intentionally. I will ALWAYS call that out. There is NO reason for that type of penalty. It is bone headed and selfish. It is "all about me". It continues to go on and we have that reputation. It does not need to be improved it needs to STOP.

BCoach is exactly right here. This has been an issue with Parker and the coaches obviously have not done anything to stop it.bcoach wrote:A misconduct/unsportsmanlike penalty is not a mistake.
