Re: App State Notes WSJ
Wow, his explanation of not calling the timeout may be worse than not calling it. He couldn't tell if it was a catch and if so if it was a first down? Don't we have guys in the booth looking at this stuff? That is completely uncalled for, we didn't call a time out because our coach didn't know what was going on on the field of play. I watch a ton of college football, more so than most I am sure, and you just don't see good coaches make these type of mistakes.

Time management was an issue for both the Troy and Tennessee losses...I love Coach Satt but that's something he needs to study up on and improve for sure.

This criticism I have to side with completely. A group of experienced well paid coaches need to be aware of everything especially time management. I mean when the time becomes a factor somebody has to be aware and make a decision. Coaches can't always control what players do but man they can call timeouts.

Is it really necessary to re-hash this issue? I think everybody already understands that not calling the TO was a mistake. So, looks like someone in the booth might have advised that it was a catch and he was expecting the clock to stop automatically since there would be no guarantee that the TO would be given back. Bad decision by a relatively new coach who had a dozen things demanding his focus at the time. It's the same head coach who put together the team that was in a position to beat a very good Troy team who had dominated the line of scrimmage all night. Mistakes were made, but I hope we hang onto Satterfield for as long as possible.

It isn't a rehash as I was responding to the coaches comments that I had not been aware of before. I happen to like Satt and think he has done an amazing job with our transition. I gladly give him props, but he has proven to be very poor at 2 minute time management this season and frankly it is a major reason why we were not in better position to win 2 games that we should have won. That being said, if he manages the time in those 2 games better, and we get into a position to win and do win, then we are in the top 25 and not Troy. Yes, he made a huge mistake and it has been discussed but his reason for that mistake hasn't been mentioned until now. Personally, I find the reason more disturbing than the mistake because it just underlines that somebody isn't doing the job. It is unacceptable at this level of football.Yosef84 wrote:Is it really necessary to re-hash this issue? I think everybody already understands that not calling the TO was a mistake. It came up again because of the WSJ article...mistakes are made all the time...it's just that this was an issue in 2 of the 3 losses and they would have been huge, huge wins...I agree that we need to keep Satt for as long as possible...we're lucky to have him.Yosef84 wrote:Is it really necessary to re-hash this issue?
