Put the Band in charge of the scoreboard music.

I was at the game yesterday. IMO, the operator of the scoreboard music is absolutely clueless. The canned music DETRACTS from the experience. The pregame music was moronic, too loud, and stupid. I could handle a song or two of rap (maybe), but it was all the same drivel. One note about rap: I look around the entire stadium at the fans in the seats, and I could not identify one person who I thought might find that genre of music entertaining. Perhaps I did not look hard enough. BUT, I know there are whole sections in the stadium who probably dislike that style.
And, then during the game, we heard loud song snippets before plays. That chit took the crowd OUT of the game. The students did not appear to like it either. And, my biggest complaint of all: We heard loud music WHILE WE HAD THE BALL! What idiot thinks that is a good idea? I suppose the only possible explanation is some conference rule that what is done for the visiting team's offence, must be done for the home team. OK, fine... let's hear NOTHING from the scoreboard when both teams have the ball.
I would prefer to hear the BOD instead of the canned music.
I make a motion (publicly, on the MMB), to hereafter put the ASU Dept. of Music in charge of the music emanating from the scoreboard speakers during all ASU home football games. I await a second.

The music caters to the team and students. The general media's love for all things rap for over 20 years is another rant for another day but yes, it sucks and too damn loud as well. I got sick of the little "let's go App nation" snippets. I think the brutal cold weather had a lot to do with that. Good win though.

I've reached the point where I don't care what kind of music they play. However, I have given up on trying to be louder than the music that plays between downs. I believe the net result is more fans are taken out of the game than become involved.

While it's fine to complain about it here, please take the time to send your comments to the athletic department. If they hear from enough of us, they might actually do something.
I don't think it's realistic to hope to get rid of it entirely. Apparently the players love it during warm ups and if that helps them get it going, then that's fine by me. But we have to stop with that crap between plays. It's just plain stupid and even more so when we have the ball. The band should be taking care of those shorter moments.

From the games I've gone to this year, the band didn't really know when to play either and wasn't all that loud.
I've got no problem with canned music (even rap) as long as it's played at the proper times. Going into timeouts on the field would be a good time.

Well lets organize and make our feelings known.....collectively. It does suck and I'd have nothing but the band play. We need to find a new entrance song and institutionalize it while we are at it.

The band needs to shut up too in certain circumstances. Their coordinated scream thing cost us a drive in the second half. They did it right before Lamb got the snap. They also played through an entire offensive play at one point.

AppAllum1 and Gonzo , I agree totally. They are killing crowd participation. The fans in the 111 have started to give up and are looking like Heel fans, politely clapping.
Doug Gillen needs to make a change quickly.
BTW, no way there was 26,000 fans yesterday.
Other than that it was a good game and our kicker kicked 3 field goals.

This is very common. I wish the band played more, but as you pointed out, at the right time. Music of any sort should be limited when we have the ball on offense.

This. Is. A. Non. Issue.
I promise you the players love the music, so the statement about how no one in the stadium wants to hear it is just ridiculous because the players and students love the rap music. It gets them amped up and excited. They're not playing music for you, they are playing it for the players. The team is winning a lot right now, shut up about the music please

I think most people's beef is with the timing. Not the genre.

There have been many e-mails sent to the athletic department so it is very obvious they don't care what we think. They are very happy looking like they don't have a clue.

Absolutely not going to stop.
The over use of the music sucks.

Every other school has the exact same timing
Remember Clemson last year every third down they play "we too deep" and the stadium goes absolutely nuts? The students and players love it, and that song has actually became a part of their identity as a program.

I thought the band played more yesterday. I have learned to block the piped music out.

I've got no problem with the pregame music. It really is for the players. However, don't play it once the band enters the stadium until after the drumline does their thing. I see no point in playing the music between plays. It is disjointed and has no theme. Frankly, I'm embarrassed by it.

So not so. One of ours graduated while we were living in Fl, ended up at FSU. The ONLY piped in music is pre-game before the band enters the stadium and during the between quarter time outs. Then they time the piped in music and band to coordinate live music when the TV coverage returns. FSU's band has more options for playing between downs, among them, a often-repeated "first down" tune. Defense is not all "War Chan"t as some people would think, but it is amazing the atmosphere when the band is cranking and the fans are moving.
We have a great band. Their leadership does a very good job. Just need to be clearer on the rules: 1. Play briefly between the plays when we have the ball, esp after a 1st down is announced. 2. Play loud, and right up to the snap when opponents have the ball.
If we are going to have piped in music, I agree with the original post and will second the motion. LET THE BAND CONTROL IT. That way we don't have PA music when the BOC is ready to play.

Regarding music selection, every genre of music has its supporters and detractors. Rap/hip hop gets the attention from some, but I hear country, pop, and classic or hard rock at the games as well. There are people who dislike each of those, too. The snippets are usually short and if something is not my personal favorite, I know it won't be played for long.
I agree that band music can be a great unifier. I wish the band would add a few selections to its repertoire for the stands. "Call Me Al" (Paul Simon) is cool, but has been played a lot for the past few seasons.

Shut up? Were you the captain of your debate team in kindergarten? Or, are you the goober in control of the scoreboard music?
You are in essence saying the paying fans dont matter? What an asinine attitude. If someone is making this decision based on what they think the PLAYERS want to hear, then they are completely off base. They have the cart before the horse. What do the FANS want to hear?
I sit right behind the student section. They were 100% NOT LISTENING to all that rap shit pre-game. They did seem to perk up some when some of the country & rock & pop tunes came up during time outs.
If this rap is what the PLAYERS want to hear, let them wear their iphones out there. I have no problem with that. I doubt the coaches will allow that, but its fine with me.
If the FANS are amped, the players will pick up on it & be amped as well. 12th man concept.
Put the ASU Music Dept. in charge of all music played during ball games, and all facets of this will improve.
And, I agree, with the above poster that continued communications with the athletic dept. may have the best chance of making this change.

I agree again AppAlum1, I know almost every fan I talk to agree with us. And I talk to many.
It is a stupid topic because the admin is doing the wrong thing aka cups with ice.
