Re: Recruiting, 2015
OL Tyler Norris (6′ 5″ 260) of Dobyns Bennett High School in Kingsport, TN has committed to App State after his in home meeting this evening. I have moved his player page to the Commits section of the Main Page. He was a ETSU commit until this evening so if you haven't watched his film I suggest you take a look at it. I think you'll see some similarities to Beau Nunn's HS film. He's got the frame and it'll be good to see how much he adds after a year under Iron Mike.
Expect some more news soon across the board.

Looks like Thomas has recommitted to FAU and Roth seems like he may stick with MTSU. Good to get Norris.

Hell, La Tech can have him. Not sure he will make it one year in college.AppGrad78 wrote:One player whose name briefly popped up on our recruiting radar -- Ephraim KItchen -- recently committed to Louisiana Tech. Rivals.com immediately elevated him from a two-star to a three-star.
This video is all the reason I need to be happy for Louisiana Tech.
It's also another reason why I put zero stock in what a recruiting service says about a recruiting class.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
It's a two-year old interview with a 10th grader from Mississippi who had probably never been interviewed on camera before, probably got no time or help to prep, and basically just comes off as introverted. Don't know what relevance that has to the accuracy of recruiting rankings.AppState89 wrote:Hell, La Tech can have him. Re: Recruiting, 2015
Not much different than Eaton last year except Thomas didn't commit for a day. But word is that Thomas still wants App to keep an in home that he set this past weekend for Wednesday and another site is reporting this as well. We'll see what happens.hapapp wrote:Looks like Thomas has recommitted to FAU and Roth seems like he may stick with MTSU. Good to get Norris.
Silly season is in full swing. Hang on for the bumpy ride.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
So based on current publicly known commits, including those who are still considering other schools, our class looks something like this:
QB - 1
WR - 1
TE - 1
OL - 3
DE - 2
DT - 1
LB - 3
DB - 5
K - 1
If all those stick - which we can't assume yet, of course - I'd say we're getting very close to all needs being filled and the remainder of spots going to "best available" type prospects. Hopefully including Adams.
I do think we need at least one HS receiver, but it sounds like several of those slotted for DB are versatile enough to move to WR if the numbers call for it.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
I agree I'd like to keep all the current ones and round it out with the big DL and big WR at the top of our board.
I'm sure we have another spot for Thomas is he changes his mind again. He may be a case of the last touch point gets him, some kids just love the hunt. I want the ones that enjoy the kill.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
I think the coaches have done a great job thus far, if they manage to keep these guys and pull in the two I'm hoping for, I'll be more than happy. We might just have a few of those immediate surprises, and we've certainly got the guys to carry the flag in a year or two as our Apps graduate. I'm just thankful App isn't GaSt.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
It sounds like Thomas is sold on App, but his family is sold on FAU. Who knows what the HC at FAU said to him and his family when they spoke yesterday. It's got to be hard for some of these kids to tell momma they're not going to the school she wants them to go to.firemoose wrote:Not much different than Eaton last year except Thomas didn't commit for a day. He wants his family to meet and get sold on the Coaches and have them answer any questions...Mama wants him to stay at home.
Re: Recruiting, 2015
I hope its not the case with Thomas, it never ends well for a kid when a parent's influence dictates on where he plays football instead on where he truly wants to go. In any case, I hope everything works out for him, and if he choses FAU he has a great 4 years there.

Remember Alex Collins who committed to Arkansas but his mom wouldn't sign his LOI and hid it on signing day because she wanted him to go to Miami?moehler wrote:I hope its not the case with Thomas, it never ends well for a kid when a parent's influence dictates on where he plays football instead on where he truly wants to go. Re: Recruiting, 2015
The funny thing is that Boca is a minimum 6 1/2 hours from Tallahassee on the best day. I know as I've driven all over FL and 7 is about the best I've been able to do on that one. It's not exactly next door and Boone is just 2 1/2 hours more, even dealing with the nightmare that is Atlanta (although I know a few tricks there). Long way to be sure but again Boca Raton isn't next door. It's all relative to me but I've spent a lot of my life on the road or rails. Couple hours more makes no difference to me.Rekdiver wrote:He wants his family to meet and get sold on the Coaches and have them answer any questions...Mama wants him to stay at home.
