Re: When will stadium expansion start again?
I think we need season ticket sales to be north of 12k before we add seats.

I have friends that are in one of the units. They and all the others in that unit are long-time and big-time APP supporters. The youngest is past 70, they chose that seating to be in an accessible area for them and a short walk from YOSEF room. The units are not distracting when you consider the usefullness of them.
NCSU had a grassy bank behind their East? end zone. and was there since the place was built. Now they have sculptors of wolfs on rocks, a nice football facility and nice seats. I like seeing the bank I do not like watching a game from there. The bank may not have to go. There is like 3 miles between the bank and the field, so seats in front of the bank.

If you deduct all the student seating, what is the seating capacity?

Re: When will stadium expansion start again?
Not sure, we average 8k students a game.
Seats capacity for 2012 was 24,050.
Let's say student seating is 8.5k as their seating is between 30-35% of the stadium.
That leaves 15,500 seats. My 12k figure would be just over 75% for season tickets. However after considering the visitor section I'd adjust that number down to 10,000.
ODU (an upstart) has sold out their stadium and have a wait list for season tickets.
For those that would rather have regular seats vs. clubseats in the north endzone. There is a wait list for club seats so the demand is there.
I'd like to see them long-term redo the lowever stands and add seats in the north endzone where the temps are to connect the lower east and west and then put 7-8 rows of club seats on top of them. I would design it to leave space for a deck between those seats and the east side for a true Yosef Clubroom like we used to have in the stadium.

One year to decide what to do, one year to build new track facility, 2 years to expand stadium. Minimum 4 years.

From my vantage point those seats stayed full for most of the games. Like the bank, the party first game second crowd thinned out after halftime and the 3rd qtr.bcoach wrote:Well then just move them over to the temp bleachers that the students start pouring out of after the first quarterKgfish wrote:I know some are enamored with the bank and seeing folks packed in there like sardines but if we expect to play Marshall and ECU in Boone again we have to put real seats in both end zones. Well a few of us watched it every game and it started after the first quarter every game. We also watched them leaving later during tied or very close games. It really is a shame those seats are wasted on many of those who sit there.

Re: When will stadium expansion start again?
I sat there (endzone) every game last season. It really is a section full of lame ass fans/students. My group even got heckled (by students), demanding that we sit down because we were blocking their view. I'm pretty sure they left during the second quarter after they got fed up with us.bcoach wrote:Well a few of us watched it every game and it started after the first quarter every game. The benefit of sitting there is that you can't sit closer to the field anywhere else. It's pretty cool when the opposing team is backed up in that endzone.

It could be a really neat place for students to sit and make a lot of noise.

Re: When will stadium expansion start again?
I would imagine that at some point in the near future we will move towards a tiered pricing structure, which should also affect season ticket price points. This might be after the next round of expansion but it surely is coming. At that point, season tickets might be available, at a lower price point, in a new endzone structure on the Owens end, or on the hill...should folks wish to purchase season tickets in those areas, at a slightly reduced price.3rd wrote:since it is such a sweet place for students to sit why not put season ticket holders their?

It just kinda pisses me off that some on here want to move the students to the end zone. Yes lets move the group of people who get into the game 2 and a half hours before it starts to get good seats, lets move them to crappy seats. Lets be like NCSU where their student section sucks every weekend except the one weekend they play FSU. Sounds like great plans to me

Holy crap let's jump to conclusions everyone!
How dare anyone suggest that students get the closest seats in the house?
Where did anyone say anything about taking away existing student seating.
Calm down.

The athletics department should promote that seating for Mountaineer Maniacs only. Since the opposing team dresses in Owens and has pre-game in that end there are a lot of heckling opportunities. It could really be a neat part of the atmosphere. And though something like a Lambeau Leap is out of the question players could high five students after scoring a TD down there.Saint3333 wrote:It could be a really neat place for students to sit and make a lot of noise.

Re: When will stadium expansion start again?
IMO, When we are selling 125% of capacity (season tickets, students and single game) for last 6 years that should be all the justification to expand the stadium that is needed, period. The administration must find a way to pay/finance this expansion based on proven historical fan support. There is no reason to believe that we cannot support with attendance, an expansion to 30,000 physical seats going forward with the increase competition level of FBS.
If the expansion design allows some overflow areas, such as bank, that is great, if we have to give it up then fine, we will have physical seats instead.
This notion that fans and students like being cramped or on the hill because they love it is ridiculous. There is not a student in the world that would rather pack themselves into a VW bus when they could sit comfortably in a limo. They are doing it ONLY because they have no other choice.

Re: When will stadium expansion start again?
There are two ways to accomplish this.
1 - raise the money via donations
2 - increase single games tickets $5 a ticket to raise the money to pay for expansion
Either way it is going to take new revenue sources to expand.

I agree, totally, if we get the debt from the last facilities enhancement paid off, or get a donor to pay for what you are asking for. (A donor who doesn't want to do the hiring and firing). We should have learned a lesson from the dude who heavily influenced the re-hiring of Buzz and the bringing on of Jason Capel.

Re: When will stadium expansion start again?
I agree to an extent because it looks bad but heck, if they pay for their tickets, who cares. Besides, there are tons over a typical season who come just to watch the band. I sat between two sets of Tar Heel parents who had children attendingat UNC but came to see their respective kids palying in the band. The only time I saw them cheer was when their band student/kids took the field. They stayed the whole game in order to greet their kids after the final whistle and go to a late dinner. One of the two dads even said he enjoyed the game afterward. They paid their money and support their kids finbancially at ASU so I don't fault them at all. Not saying this is the norm by any stretch of the imagination, but that kind of thing happens more often than many of us care to admit. My daugher, when she was 6 or 8 enjoyed coming with me just to see the cheerleaders and marching band. There were many times that I wouldn't have gone without her coming along (I valued her time that much). BTW, she cheered for over 10 years.bcoach wrote:Well a few of us watched it every game and it started after the first quarter every game.
