We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

I was looking at their "info-graphics" and facebook page. One of their biggest sermons is professors not making enough. Those professors are conning students into getting them a raise. That's inevitable.
But, I bet there will be more students skipping their afternoon classes to get ready for the game than attending this protest.
The school changed their plan. Originally, only the Rivers Street deck would be open for students. Now, they'll honor student Stadium passes until 1 and set up a park and ride at the old high school. Seems like a decent compromise.
I hate that we're playing Georgia Southern on a Thursday. I think the allure of "national tv" is overrated. Last week's ESPNU Thursday night game was seen by a whopping 28,000 people (this week's rating will be a lot higher).
But, if there is one group that is probably overwhelming in favor of a Thursday night game, it is the student body.

I wanted to dedicate a segment on the podcast to disassembling every one of those stupid points. But I felt it would give them too much visibility.Gonzo wrote:Good lord. This is what happens when college professors who've never worked a day in their lives, hate football and hate America, spend their time indoctrinating impressionable young people with NONE-SENSE instead of teaching them useful tools to be successful.
I'll cross that picket line and educate these fools.
Horrific. The entitlement generation of Bernie Sanders supporters in full force.

Wonder how many of those selfish "thinkers" will ever give a dime back to Appalachian?

Did you guys go to a different App State than me? Has there not ALWAYS been a contingent at App that's ready to protest pretty much anything? That's one of the things that makes it what it is, and I for one woudln't want to de-hippie-fy my alma mater, even if I think this particular cause is trifling. (Which I do.)
As for me and mine, we've got two kids under two, so a weeknight game is pretty much a non-starter. I guess that qualifies as an excuse, but Thursday's a hard time to snag an overnight sitter and they're just too young to bring. I'm hoping to send few folks in our place, though!

Re: No excuses App Nation!
Not sure its necessary to name call the folks who have a different point of view with respect to athletics. Not sure the students feel any more entitled than many of our fans. Folks are constantly on here asking that we expand the stadium, build a new track facility, pay our coaches more...etc., so our program can be more impressive. Yet, only a couple of thousand of our alums are Yosef members. Seems like there is a sense of entitlement there.
I'm looking forward to this game as much as anybody and I certainly think their protest is misplaced but there is some validity to their arguments.

My group of 10 will be there and we will be loud. Disappointed this game is not already sold out. It actually appears that some sections have more seats available than they did Friday when I took a look.

Re: No excuses App Nation!
Unfortunately I had to sit through a presentation featuring all the "infographics" on their page last Wednesday in place of a typical lecture prior to fall break. One of the organization's leaders presented this to us, and it was one of the worst things I've ever sat through. All of the numbers were taken out of context and specifically aligned to fit their agenda.firemoose wrote:Good Grief. Be interested to see how many show up. Side note: she gave this presentation while wearing an ECU sweatshirt.

There are hippies, and there's social justice warriors. The latter is a new phenomenon. Hippies don't care if we have football.appchicago wrote:Did you guys go to a different App State than me? If anyone actually shows up, we'll get a look at the future unemployed because they are unemployable........and they will blame their problem upon a Thursday night football game.

How can you compare these people to Bernie Sanders style socialists? Their mindset seems to be much more in line with hardcore fiscal conservatives who want an athletic dept that's fiscally responsible and not supported on the backs of students (a large chunk of which do not go to games). I'm not saying I agree with them, but making such a comparison in this context is pretty questionable. Axe to grind much?

How did we get from encouraging fans to attend a football game to politics?

Yeah let's nip that in the bud.
I don't think a handful of picketing morons will keep us from having 10k+ students at the game. Regardless of their political affiliation.

I'm more referring to the fact that Bernie Sanders supporters are the ultimate example of missing the forest for the trees. They want to dismantle a system that has created more economic development and wealth (and the highest standard of living) for ordinary people than any other time period in human history without acknowledging whatsoever that it's the gov't that creates corruption and big business. Not free markets. But facts and details don't allow for a heartstring-tugging narrative of oppression.Appftw wrote:How can you compare these people to Bernie Sanders style socialists? Kinda like these kids are missing the point that the App State football program has done more for their school, education and the value of their diploma than any of their professors could have dreamed of doing. Again, look at the quality of students that are coming to App State post-Michigan vs. pre-Michigan. But it sure is a bummer they don't get their parking spot on one Thursday afternoon.
To tie this back into App State football: Time to support the program, ladies and gentlemen! The Sun Belt champion very may well be crowned on Thursday and I plan to be there with a group of friends and 30,000+ others!
