Methinks NewApp is remembering the olden days when conferences weren't tied to particular bowl games and the names of the bowl games were pretty simple - Rose Bowl (began 1902 as Tournament East-West), Sugar Bowl (began 1935), Cotton Bowl (began 1937), etc.. It wasn't until much later that conference ties and corporate sponsors became a fixture in the bowl picture. Of course, that likely means that NewApp is stuck somewhere in the early 1970's.EastHallApp wrote:Exactly, been trying to explain this. Now, there are all sorts of reasons why we want to win as many games as possible, of course. But the bowl options are basically set.appst89 wrote:There is very little chance of playing anywhere except one of the four bowls with which the Belt has tie-ins. 11-1 or 8-4 is going to make almost no difference. If we are bowl eligible, we will be in either New Orleans, Montgomery, Mobile or Orlando.
And anyway, the idea that any bowl rep two months from now is going to hesitate to invite App because of our margin of victory this weekend - especially if it's something like 41-17 - simply doesn't fly at all.
NewApp, the likelihood of App qualifying for one of the New Year's Six is something less than impossible. Only two of the New Year's Six bowls (Fiesta & Peach) provide for at-large teams. All other bowls are either conference affiliated or part of the CFP National Championship.
